Getting to know Matthew Bach
I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP) with a Master's in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Adelphi University and a Bachelor's degree from Chamberlain University. I am focused on patient-centered mental health treatment. Early on in my career, it became evident to me that treatment needs to be individualized to meet the needs of each person. Most, if not all of us, carry unique trauma that shapes who we are and influences our behavioral and psychological maladaptations. My professional interests include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, sleep disturbances, and ADHD.
Central to my approach is the judicious and responsible use of psychotropic medications alongside lifestyle changes and talk therapy. I do not subscribe to the ?pill for every ill? mantra championed by much of the psychiatric world. It is most important to me that patients feel empowered and heard after each session. Mental health treatment is not always a linear journey, and it can often be hard to predict an exact trajectory for the course of treatment and symptom resolution. However, I assure you that we will work together to build a treatment plan designed to make your symptoms more manageable and improve daily functioning.
What should a new client know about working with you?
My goal is to ensure that each patient is engaged in the process of developing their own treatment plan. I believe that as a provider my job is to offer interventions that are evidenced-based and then collaboratively decide with my patient which option is most appropriate. Medications are not always 1st line for treatment, and it is important be mindful of this as a provider and patient.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
During our first appointment we will conduct a 60-minute comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. This is essentially an opportunity for me to learn about you, your personality, your struggles, your strengths. At the end of this session, we will discuss diagnosis and potential options for treatment. Generally, follow up sessions are 30 minutes, where I employ supportive therapy, while learning more about you, and monitor our treatment plan progress.

Matthew has been a great psychiatric provider, going out of his way to provide care. He has continuously listened to all my needs and adjusted medication management accordingly while keeping up with the latest research.

He is fantastic. He is caring and concerned about his patients and will always follow up. He also is thorough and so knowledgable when it comes to medicine and therapy. Matthew was the first psychiatric provider who actually took the time to genuinely listen to me. He does not just throw pills at you. He really worked with me to come up with a good treatment strategy that I was comfortable with. He is compassionate and warm; and knows his stuff. Highly Recommend!
