Getting to know Matthew Hylton

Matthew Hylton is a skilled Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a strong focus on delivering thoughtful and individualized care to his patients. With a diverse background in both psychiatric and family health, Matthew brings a well-rounded perspective to his practice. He is committed to understanding each patient's unique mental health needs, developing customized treatment plans that may include medication management and therapeutic interventions. Matthew emphasizes collaboration with patients, families, and other healthcare providers to ensure a comprehensive and supportive care experience. His goal is to empower individuals to navigate their mental health journey with confidence and compassion.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients should know that my approach to care is collaborative, respectful, and individualized. I believe that every person’s mental health journey is unique, and I take the time to truly understand your needs, concerns, and goals. Whether you're exploring medication options, managing a long-standing condition, or navigating new symptoms, we’ll work together to develop a treatment plan that feels right for you. I value open communication and encourage questions at every step. I also coordinate care with therapists and other providers when appropriate, to ensure a comprehensive and supportive experience. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, empowered, and supported as we work toward improving your mental well-being.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with truly listening to understand your unique story and concerns. During our first session, I’ll conduct a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that explores your current symptoms, medical and mental health history, lifestyle factors, and treatment goals. This helps me get a full picture of your needs. Based on that evaluation, we’ll develop a personalized treatment plan—this may include medication management, lifestyle recommendations, or referrals for therapy if needed. I’ll walk you through the options, explain how medications work, and answer any questions you have, so you can make informed decisions. Follow-up appointments are used to check in on your progress, adjust treatment if needed, and make sure you feel supported every step of the way. I believe in building a collaborative and trusting relationship, where you feel safe, respected, and empowered in your mental health care.
