About Dr. Melani Kekulawala

Dr. Melani Kekulawala (Dr. K) is a family medicine physician who recently graduated fellowship and is joining the Monroe OB team. Her personal mission is to empower women through compassionate, evidence-based obstetric, gynecologic, and primary care, fostering health, trust, and confidence at every stage of life. Dr. Kekulawala is especially passionate about obstetrics, family planning and contraception, obesity and weight management, mental health, and adolescent health. She earned her Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Toledo. She completed her Family Medicine residency before pursuing advanced fellowship training in Surgical Obstetrics at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. Having lived and trained in Monroe for the past four years, Dr. Kekulawala is proud to serve the community she now calls home. Her commitment to women's health extends beyond clinical practice—she has participated in public health initiatives in South Africa, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Kenya, experiences that have shaped her patient-centered approach to care.
