Getting to know Melissa Broughton

Melissa Broughton is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with a Master's in Adult Nurse Practitioner from Northeastern University. She has a diverse range of clinical experiences across all levels of the mental health system. Her approach acknowledges pharmacology as just one element of improving a patient's mental health while also empowering clients to engage in therapy and other avenues of wellness, including nutrition, fitness, and social connection.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My practice provides treatment to who are interested in psychiatric medication treatment. To start working together, please book a time for a 5-10 minute phone call via Zocdoc. During this call we can discuss the type of mental health support you are looking for and it will also give you the chance to get to know me and ask any questions. If we decide to work together, I will then start the process of completing an insurance check to ensure I am in network and an intake appointment is scheduled (as early as 2 days after the phone call). If you are not using insurance, we can schedule an intake appointment as early as the next day.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our time working together starts with an initial consultation. During this consultation my main priority is to get to know you. We will talk about what is going on for you currently (how you feel, symptoms, context) as well as any pertinent information from your social, medical, and psychological history. * My goal is to create an open and nonjudgmental space where you feel supported, empowered to take care of your mental health, and knowledgeable about your potential treatment options. I also believe non pharmacological approaches to be just as important as medication treatment and will discuss this during follow up meetings. *If you have previously taken medications or are currently taking medications, it is helpful for you to come to this meeting with the names and doses of the medication.
