Getting to know Melissa Brubaker
Hi, I’m Melissa, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and founder of Rooted Mind Psychiatric Services. Just like trees, we need strong roots to stay grounded, especially when facing anxiety, depression, or other mood concerns. I provide medication management as one tool to help support greater balance, resilience, and overall well-being. I focus on you as a whole person, not just a diagnosis, combining medication, lifestyle guidance, and practical coping strategies.
* Stimulant medications for ADHD are not prescribed at the first visit and require medical assessment. In some cases, a neuropsychological evaluation may be needed (referrals provided).
* This practice does not prescribe benzodiazepines or hypnotics, and is unable to provide disability evaluations, ESA letters, or FMLA documentation.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I work with adults from all walks of life who are ready to actively engage in their mental health journey. I approach each person with curiosity, presence, and genuine care. Together, we’ll explore challenges, build on your strengths, and find practical ways to create meaningful, positive change in your daily life.
Initial visits are 60–75 minutes, and follow-ups are up to 30 minutes. You’ll receive an intake packet to complete at least 24 hours before your session.
Please note: This practice does not prescribe controlled substances (stimulants, benzodiazepines, hypnotics, etc.), perform ADHD testing, or provide evaluations for disability, FMLA, workers’ comp, forensic cases, or emotional support animals.

More information on payments and coverage
Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

I’ve had such a positive experience working with Melissa. I was skeptical about seeking treatment due to past experiences with other providers, but Melissa is very warm and listens to your needs. She genuinely cares and doesn’t rush the sessions. I feel heard and I’m comfortable working with her.

Melissa is such a relief after coming from a poor experience with my last psychiatric NP. She is warm, kind, and thorough. She asked lots of questions, and made sure we each understood each other. She offered a judgment free space for me to honestly talk about my history with medication. Most of all, she trusted my experience as the patient to know best what's going on with my body and mind. I would highly recommend her to anyone.
