Getting to know Melissa Denniston

I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner providing care for adolescents and adults. I complete psychiatric evaluations, manage medications, and support treatment for anxiety, depression, ADHD, and mood disorders. My approach is respectful, patient-centered, and focused on creating a safe and supportive environment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I provide clear, simple, and personalized care for adolescents and adults. During the first visit, we talk about your symptoms, daily stress, and what you want to improve. My style is calm, direct, and supportive. I use medication when needed and share easy tools to help with anxiety, mood, sleep, and focus. We work together to set goals and review your progress at each visit. I expect honest communication and regular follow-ups. You will have a respectful space where you can speak freely, feel heard, and receive care that fits your needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We review your symptoms, past care, current stress, sleep, and daily functioning. I ask clear questions to understand what is going on and form a diagnosis. After that, we create a plan together. This may include medication, simple coping tools, and lifestyle changes. I also use brief supportive talk during visits to help with stress, thoughts, and behavior. Follow-up visits focus on your progress. We review how you are feeling, check how treatment is working, and make changes if needed. Each session is structured, supportive, and focused on helping you improve.

I was told I would be referred to a psychologist yet never did. She listened the whole hour before letting me know she only managed drugs for patients.
