What should a new client know about working with you?

It’s my goal to make the therapy process feel easy and comfortable. I give you the space to heal whether you need a little extra support or are in a time of major crisis or change. I specialize in supporting those who are navigating relationships, dating, complex family dynamics, career stressors, and those who don’t know where to begin but know they want to feel better. I use a directive, collaborative, & nonjudgemental approach to help you identify patterns that no longer serve you and help you get “unstuck”. I will always be real with you and support you through warmth, empathy, and humor. Our sessions will feel like sitting with a friend over coffee rather than a clinical provider taking notes and analyzing every word. I specialize in working with teens, 20s, 30s, & 40s professionals. My treatment style incorporates psychodynamic & solution-focused frameworks. This means that I won’t sit silently and nod, rather, I will be active in our sessions and offer direction. I will support and validate you while also challenging you to look at the way you've been interacting with your world a little differently. We will work together to understand your defense mechanisms and fight against old patterns that no longer serve you. Together we will engage in exploration of past and present triumphs and wounds while working towards a healthy future. Additionally, I am trained in and offer a highly specialized type of trauma therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) for individuals who are looking to try something a little bit different than talk therapy or who want to try this in addition to talk therapy! EMDR is beneficial for those who suffer with the weight of long-term trauma, anxiety, and depression.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Before our first session together (the "intake" session), you will be emailed and asked to complete standard intake paperwork (i.e., informed consent, practice policies, credit card authorization). I will review this information prior to our first meeting. Our intake period (takes place over 1-3 session) will consist of me obtaining your psycho-social history (aka asking you about all of the different areas of your life) to get a "blueprint", so to speak, of who you are and where therapeutic treatment should go. We will work together to come up with treatment goals to help ground our work together moving forward. Our first session after our intake is where the work begins. I typically will see you for a 45 minute session once a week, with the option to be seen more frequently for deeper therapeutic work. The majority of our sessions will be conducted on Zoom which is a confidential, HIPAA compliant video-based platform. You will have the option to come in person to my Upper East Side location for monthly in-person meetings. Before the conclusion of a session, I will often suggest reflection exercises for you to work on before we see each other next!
