Dr. Melissa Manley, PhD

Psychologist
3660 N Lake Shore Dr, #201, chicago, IL
In my work as a clinical psychologist, I center values of acceptance, compassion, and effectiveness. My goal is to help you move in the direction of what matters most to you. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other cognitive-behavioral approaches in my practice. ACT focuses on helping you explore what is most important to you and teaching skills to "unhook" from difficult thoughts and feelings. We may engage in mindfulness together, monitor or track your experiences, and engage in behavioral exercises or experiments. Other treatments I offer include Exposure and Response Prevention and Inference-based CBT for obsessive-compulsive disorder, as well as Written Exposure Therapy for PTSD. My specialties include working with anxiety, OCD, depression, histories of trauma, self-esteem and self-image issues, social difficulties, and issues surrounding gender and sexual identity. As a member of the LGBTQ community, I am passionate about serving LGBTQ clients and clients in consensually nonmonogamous relationships. I strive to be aware of how all individuals I work with are impacted by their social contexts, such as personal relationships, family systems, and systems of oppression. I offer individual and relationship counseling to adults of all life stages. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Clark University and hold a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan.
