Getting to know Dr. Melody London

I am Melody D. London, PhD, a licensed psychologist who earned my doctorate in clinical psychology in 1996. I have studied in both the United States and England. I have worked exclusively in private practice since 2002. I am pleased to offer expert services based on over 25 years of experience in a comfortable, confidential space. With me you can learn to better manage emotions, stress and relationships at work or at home or to better cope with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, substance overuse or trauma. Your journey will be personally crafted to meet your specific needs. Your goals will be an integral part of your treatment plan. Your therapy will be part of a collaborative process in which you will be an active participant. In addition to my experience in treating general psychological issues, I have extensive training and experience in treating depression and bipolar disorder and the medication used in treating them. I have experience in treating people with substance use disorders and their families and have developed and run a substance use disorder program. I have trained with experts in trauma. I have managed a 24-hour mobile suicide and crisis program. I have run an internship training program and have provided clinical supervision to interns and new graduates learning to be therapists. Before working in my private practice, I worked in community mental health in both Asian and Latino-based agencies, working with patients from nearly every country in Central America, nearly every country in Southeast Asia, some Pacific Islands and from Russia. I have continued to work with these populations. I am prepared to help you learn skills you can be confident in that will help you thrive in your relationships, your career and your environment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I enjoy working with a wide variety of people and can orient myself to most meet people’s needs. I provide an atmosphere in which you can explore your issues of the past and the present. I will use the evidence-based treatment that best suits your needs and will include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Relational or Interpersonal Therapies to help you accomplish your goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I invite you to start the process of learning more about yourself. In the first session or two, I will guide you in telling me about what has changed that has led you to reach out to start therapy at this time. I will ask you specific questions to help you tell your history to give me the context that will help use create goal that will keep therapy on target to ensure that we can accomplish your goals. I will ask you each time you come how your week has been and if you would like to work on those goals or if you have something you would like to focus on for that day. Your goals can be changed at any time. I believe goals are helpful to ensure that we don’t get lost in the process of talking about your life and the issues that come up in it.
