Getting to know Micaela Pericone-Kapp

I'm Micaela Pericone-Kapp, an adult psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner at Mental Health Practitioners. I'm here to support you through virtual consultations that fit into your life. I earned my doctoral degree in psychiatric and mental health nursing from UMass Global, completing 765 clinical training hours. I'm certified in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS, and I bring over six years of hands-on nursing experience from critical care, ICU, and emergency departments. This background has taught me the importance of seeing the whole person, not just symptoms. My approach is simple: I believe in building real, authentic connections with the people I work with. I use evidence-based practices because they work, but I also know that your journey is uniquely yours. I'm committed to collaborative care, which means I'll work closely with your other healthcare providers, family members, and support systems to help you achieve the best possible outcomes. I'm here to listen, support, and partner with you on your path to wellness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, my approach to medication management is rooted in a patient-centered philosophy that honors your goals and lived experience. Clinical expertise matters deeply to me — and so does understanding you as a whole person, not reducing you to a diagnosis or a checklist of symptoms. Your first appointment will be thorough and unhurried. We will explore what you are going through — your symptoms, how long they have been present, what tends to trigger or intensify them, and how they are affecting your daily life. I will review your treatment history with genuine curiosity: what you have tried, what has helped, and your own sense of why certain approaches worked or did not. We will also cover your medical background, current medications, family psychiatric history, substance use patterns, and the life stressors you are navigating right now. Shared decision-making is at the heart of every treatment conversation. I present your options clearly, explain how each medication works and what the evidence supports, outline realistic expectations for benefits and timelines, and address potential side effects honestly — all while keeping your preferences front and center. My prescribing follows evidence-based standards while remaining fully individualized, using therapeutic doses, tracking progress through your feedback and validated assessment tools, and adjusting the plan based on results. Practical considerations like cost, insurance coverage, and dosing convenience are always part of the conversation. I encourage open and ongoing communication. If side effects develop, questions arise, or you notice shifts in how you are feeling, please reach out rather than waiting for your next appointment. You should never feel like you are managing this on your own. I also coordinate with your other healthcare providers when it strengthens your care, because integrated treatment consistently produces the strongest outcomes.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Beginning mental health treatment is a brave step, and I'm honored to walk alongside you in this process. When we first meet, my priority is creating a warm, nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable being completely open. I'll spend our initial hour-long session listening to your concerns, asking clarifying questions, and gathering the information needed to help you effectively. We'll discuss what's troubling you most right now, when problems started, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping treatment will help you achieve. I take a detailed history covering psychiatric symptoms, medical conditions, medications and supplements, allergies, previous mental health treatment, family history, substance use, sleep patterns, and social factors like housing stability, work stress, and relationship dynamics. All of this context helps me understand you fully and provide truly personalized care. The diagnostic process is transparent. I'll explain what I'm observing clinically and how it aligns with specific diagnoses. I use current diagnostic criteria while recognizing that you're more than a checklist — your lived experience is central to treatment planning. If medication is indicated, I thoroughly discuss options: how different medication classes work, which may best suit your symptoms, realistic expectations, side effect profiles, and alternative approaches if you're hesitant. Ongoing sessions focus on monitoring and optimization. We'll meet regularly — usually every three to four weeks initially — to assess how medication is working, address side effects, make adjustments as needed, and check in on your overall functioning and wellbeing. I also provide guidance around lifestyle factors, stress management, and when to seek additional support. Between visits, please don't hesitate to reach out if something feels urgent — timely communication is part of good care. You can expect me to be present, attentive, and genuinely invested in your progress.

I will not be seeing her again. She was rude. Inconsiderate. Treated me like I was stupid.

She was very attentive and mindful to sensitivities. Thorough and professional.
Micaela is the absolute best! Truly cares about her patients.
It's so wonderful to have a provider that listens and wants to help patients. Dr. Kapp has always gone above and beyond. I love the care and help I receive from this practice!
My journey with mental health has always been arduous. I’ve seen several providers for about 18 years now, but very few meet the standard Micaela has set for our appointments. I always feel heard, understood, and taken seriously during our visits. She takes great care in making sure that my medication journey is collaborative, using her expertise and my comfort to develop a treatment plan that works best for me both long and short term. She’s incredibly warm, kind, engaging and has a wonderful habit of explaining the why and how, as well as transparency about why certain decisions may or may not be taken. Instead of dreading my psych appointments, I now feel happy to let her know about the amazing progress we’ve made. I cannot recommend her and her services enough. My life is finally tipping towards the better with her aid and knowledge. She’s everything I look for in a mental health professional - kind, compassionate, professional, collaborative, and deeply knowledgeable!
I thought starting off with a new provider would be difficult but after my prior Dr left the practice suddenly. It was so refreshing meeting with her. She listened and cared about my concerns. About my current situation and overall mental well being. So beyond happy. Will highly recommend !
This was my first time meeting her, and she was incredibly helpful- she immediately seemed to understand and know what to do for my concerns- I felt seen and heard and also left with a plan of attack. I’m so appreciative!!
I felt sae and secure with Micaela. I felt comfortable enough to be full transparent givingfull disclosure about my past, present, and future history. I undoubtedly and unequivocally recommend Micaela.
Super great!
I LOVED her! I am so excited about my new journey to being better and feeling better, and I think it was one of the best "doctor's" visits I have ever had. She alidated me and it was life changing. Thank you.
Great visit! Looking forward to many more.
Micaela is amazing! The warmth and understand she exuded made me feel so comfortable! She listened, empathized, and offered great suggestions. I also appreciate her holistic approach. Definitely would recommend her to any of my friends and family!
I had a very insightful and informative visit with Micaela. She was kind and patient with me, and would be sure to check if I was comfortable sharing something or not. I felt very listened to, and appreciate the care and consideration she took for her treatment suggestions (whether medication, supplements and therapy could help.) It was very comprehensive, and I didn't feel overlooked or rushed like I have at other practices.
Micaela is so personable and helpful! Managing mental health can be daunting and exhausting, but she made the process seamless and easy. She listened to all of my concerns with patience and empathy, never making me feel rushed or dismissed. Her warm demeanor instantly put me at ease, and I left the appointment feeling supported, understood, and hopeful. I truly appreciate her dedication and the genuine care she shows toward her patients.
Micaela is a breath of fresh air! Of all the psychiatrists I’ve seen before, she is by far the kindest, most compassionate & thoughtful person I’ve had the pleasure of meeting! She really takes the time to get to know you & her depth of knowledge really shows in the way she explores unique/less common medication options that are still evidence based and thoughtfully chosen. Highly recommend Micaela to everyone!
I’ve been with Micaela since she joined the practice. She is friendly, professional, and kind. I highly recommend her and look forward to working with her by with her again.
