Getting to know Micaela Pericone-Kapp

I'm Micaela Pericone-Kapp, an adult psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner at Mental Health Practitioners. I'm here to support you through virtual consultations that fit into your life. I earned my doctoral degree in psychiatric and mental health nursing from UMass Global, completing 765 clinical training hours. I'm certified in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS, and I bring over six years of hands-on nursing experience from critical care, ICU, and emergency departments. This background has taught me the importance of seeing the whole person, not just symptoms. My approach is simple: I believe in building real, authentic connections with the people I work with. I use evidence-based practices because they work, but I also know that your journey is uniquely yours. I'm committed to collaborative care, which means I'll work closely with your other healthcare providers, family members, and support systems to help you achieve the best possible outcomes. I'm here to listen, support, and partner with you on your path to wellness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Please note: I do not accept EAP programs. As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I approach medication management through a patient-centered philosophy that respects your goals and personal experiences. Clinical expertise is very important to me, and so is getting to know you as a complete person instead of reducing you to a diagnosis or a checklist of symptoms. Our first appointment is comprehensive and never rushed. We'll talk through what you're experiencing, including your symptoms, how long they've been going on, what tends to trigger or worsen them, and how they're affecting your everyday life. I explore your treatment history with genuine interest, looking at what you've tried, what has been helpful, and your own thoughts about why certain approaches did or didn't work. We'll also review your medical history, current medications, family psychiatric history, and the stressors you're dealing with at this point in your life. My hope is that you'll leave that first visit feeling truly understood and confident that your care is built on a complete and accurate picture of who you are. Shared decision-making is central to every conversation we have about treatment. I'll explain your options clearly, describe how each medication works and what the research shows, set realistic expectations about benefits and timelines, and talk honestly about possible side effects, always keeping your preferences at the forefront. My prescribing follows evidence-based guidelines while remaining completely tailored to you, and I monitor your progress through your feedback and adjust the plan based on how you respond. If you experience side effects, have questions, or notice changes in how you're feeling, please contact me instead of waiting until your next visit. When it benefits your care, I also collaborate with your other providers, because coordinated treatment leads to the best outcomes and supports your journey toward lasting wellness.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Please note that I do not accept EAP programs. Reaching out for mental health treatment takes courage, and it's a real privilege to walk that road with you. From our very first meeting, what matters most to me is a warm, judgment-free setting where being open and honest comes easily. Our opening hour together goes toward listening carefully to what's troubling you, raising gentle questions to fill in the gaps, and pulling together everything I need to help you well. The history I take is a detailed one: your psychiatric symptoms, any relevant medical conditions, the medications and supplements you currently use, allergies, how earlier mental health treatment turned out, your family's psychiatric background, patterns of substance use, the quality of your sleep, and the social pieces that matter—housing, pressures at work, the state of your relationships. I keep the diagnostic side open and shared. I'll tell you what I'm seeing clinically and how it lines up with particular diagnoses, leaning on today's diagnostic criteria while never losing sight of the fact that you're so much more than a checklist—your own lived experience sits at the center of the plan we build. Where medication fits clinically, I'll go through the choices in full: how the various classes function, which might suit your symptoms best, what improvement realistically looks like, the side effects to keep watch for, and other routes to consider if something gives you pause. Our visits will follow a steady rhythm—roughly every three to four weeks at the start, easing to monthly once you're settled—so we can judge how the medication is doing, tend to side effects, adjust as the situation calls for, and take stock of how your days and your quality of life are going. Staying in good contact is a cornerstone of solid psychiatric care and helps you feel genuinely supported the whole way through. More than anything, my hope is that with time you find yourself steadier, stronger, and more sure of yourself.

I will not be seeing her again. She was rude. Inconsiderate. Treated me like I was stupid.

She was very attentive and mindful to sensitivities. Thorough and professional.
Micaela is the absolute best! Truly cares about her patients.
It's so wonderful to have a provider that listens and wants to help patients. Dr. Kapp has always gone above and beyond. I love the care and help I receive from this practice!
My journey with mental health has always been arduous. I’ve seen several providers for about 18 years now, but very few meet the standard Micaela has set for our appointments. I always feel heard, understood, and taken seriously during our visits. She takes great care in making sure that my medication journey is collaborative, using her expertise and my comfort to develop a treatment plan that works best for me both long and short term. She’s incredibly warm, kind, engaging and has a wonderful habit of explaining the why and how, as well as transparency about why certain decisions may or may not be taken. Instead of dreading my psych appointments, I now feel happy to let her know about the amazing progress we’ve made. I cannot recommend her and her services enough. My life is finally tipping towards the better with her aid and knowledge. She’s everything I look for in a mental health professional - kind, compassionate, professional, collaborative, and deeply knowledgeable!
I thought starting off with a new provider would be difficult but after my prior Dr left the practice suddenly. It was so refreshing meeting with her. She listened and cared about my concerns. About my current situation and overall mental well being. So beyond happy. Will highly recommend !
This was my first time meeting her, and she was incredibly helpful- she immediately seemed to understand and know what to do for my concerns- I felt seen and heard and also left with a plan of attack. I’m so appreciative!!
I felt sae and secure with Micaela. I felt comfortable enough to be full transparent givingfull disclosure about my past, present, and future history. I undoubtedly and unequivocally recommend Micaela.
Super great!
I LOVED her! I am so excited about my new journey to being better and feeling better, and I think it was one of the best "doctor's" visits I have ever had. She alidated me and it was life changing. Thank you.
Great visit! Looking forward to many more.
Micaela is amazing! The warmth and understand she exuded made me feel so comfortable! She listened, empathized, and offered great suggestions. I also appreciate her holistic approach. Definitely would recommend her to any of my friends and family!
I had a very insightful and informative visit with Micaela. She was kind and patient with me, and would be sure to check if I was comfortable sharing something or not. I felt very listened to, and appreciate the care and consideration she took for her treatment suggestions (whether medication, supplements and therapy could help.) It was very comprehensive, and I didn't feel overlooked or rushed like I have at other practices.
Micaela is so personable and helpful! Managing mental health can be daunting and exhausting, but she made the process seamless and easy. She listened to all of my concerns with patience and empathy, never making me feel rushed or dismissed. Her warm demeanor instantly put me at ease, and I left the appointment feeling supported, understood, and hopeful. I truly appreciate her dedication and the genuine care she shows toward her patients.
Micaela is a breath of fresh air! Of all the psychiatrists I’ve seen before, she is by far the kindest, most compassionate & thoughtful person I’ve had the pleasure of meeting! She really takes the time to get to know you & her depth of knowledge really shows in the way she explores unique/less common medication options that are still evidence based and thoughtfully chosen. Highly recommend Micaela to everyone!
