Getting to know Michael Akwo-Adelowo
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Midwestern State University and a Bachelor in Pre-Med from Texas Southern University. I earned my Master's in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Walden University. My previous experience includes serving as the director of Behavioral Health and Substance Use Services for a federally qualified health center (FQHC) in Brownwood, TX. Most recently, I worked as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Basepoint in Forney, TX. As a PMHNP, I have treated clients across all age groups with a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, ADD/ADHD, insomnia, and substance use disorders.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I work one on one with my clients, tailoring their treatment to their unique experience and their disease process. Every treatment starts by us building a therapeutic relationship of trust. I believe the client is a product of their social environment and culture. So I focus on the holistic approach to care.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
A friendly and therapeutic environment that is focused on the client. My goal is to work with the client to achieve the most appropriate diagnosis and then plan a treatment that is specific to the diagnosis. Safety is always my number one priority.

The experience was great until I saw a charge on a debit card. I was told by the doctor there would be zero copay and the card was to have on file for late fees. I cancelled my next appointment and I reached out and said services were rendered. No refunds!

Michael is the best psychiatrist I have ever had hands down. He is very easy to talk to and super knowledgeable. He’s not the kind of clinician to just push various medications on you, he takes the time to really find a good regimen for you and has great follow up to ensure you’re doing well with it. He takes a genuine interest in your mental wellbeing and it shows. He’s great at encouraging and supporting you during your journey of finding a prescription that works for you because we all know it can be exhausting working through your symptoms until you find that perfect mix of medications. He makes you feel like you’re not alone and that you WILL find a solution together. He validates and understands every symptom you come to him with and also reminds you the importance of taking care of yourself and not just relying solely on the medications, which is rare in a field that likes to just push pills. I have never met a psychiatrist that cares as much about his patients as Michael does.

Michael is great to talk to. Very emotionally intelligent. I've learned a lot about my condition and myself in our communications. I'm on a medication regimen that works. I can honestly say I am doing better than I have in years with Michael's guidance. Words do not convey the gratitude I have to feel this clearheaded. My house ( so to speak) no longer feels haunted.

Michael is great. He has helped guide me to a better understanding of my diagnosis, and how it may vary day to day. I can honestly say that I am in a better place now than I was 6 months ago with his help. We have found a prescription regimen that works and that has made a world of difference.

He seemed bored and very unconcerned with me.
He did some screening which basically asked me very basic questionnaire questions and at the end of it he said I was depressed and anxiety and after venting him and answering his inconsiderate questions he said he will just prescribe me anti depressants. I don’t want anti depressants. I want a fix not a cover up

Michael gave courtesy calls to confirm the appointment and walked me through the steps of filling out paperwork, as well as billing. I received constant reminders the day before and of the appointment. My husband stated that he was easy to talk to and that he really enjoyed talking to him on today. We plan to keep Michael as his provider.m for future appointments.
