Getting to know Michael Baker

I am a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist who works with adults, couples, and families. My work is grounded in attachment theory and focused on helping people understand their patterns, improve their relationships, and feel more secure in themselves and with others. I bring a warm, friendly, and caring presence into the therapy space, while also being direct and honest. I believe clients deserve clarity, not guesswork. Therapy with me is collaborative, practical, and grounded in real life, not clinical jargon or endless analysis. I work to create an environment where people feel safe, understood, and challenged in the right ways. My goal is to help clients develop insight, strengthen connection, and move forward with greater confidence and emotional stability.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I like new clients to know that I identify as part of the LQBTQ community, but I work with clients of all sexual orientations. I am accepting of all relationship structures. Although I am direct, you'll also find me to be quite humanistic. That means that I am warm and friendly overall, and I dont mind sharing with clients a bit about me personally, because frankly, I don't want to behave like a robot to you. We will talk about what pace of therapy works best for you, and we can move at that pace. Please know that I understand therapy can feel expensive and it also takes up your time. It is my goal to ensure that you get what you need from this process, that you feel good about our relationship, and you are able to break through patterns and behaviors that keep you stuck.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My work begins with getting to know each client and understanding what brings them to therapy, what they are hoping to change, and the patterns that may be keeping them stuck. Early sessions focus on building trust, clarifying goals, and developing a shared understanding of how past experiences and current relationships influence emotional responses and behavior. Sessions are conversational, supportive, and collaborative. I ask thoughtful questions, offer reflections, and provide direct feedback when it is helpful. I integrate attachment based insight with practical tools clients can apply between sessions. Therapy is not just about talking, but about increasing awareness, strengthening emotional regulation, and improving communication and connection. Over time, we adjust the pace and focus based on the client’s needs. My goal is to create a space where clients feel understood, challenged appropriately, and supported as they move toward meaningful and lasting change.
