Getting to know Michael Barnes
Michael Barnes is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with experience treating a broad range of mental health conditions. He believes in treating the mind, body, and spirit using an evidence-based and holistic approach. His approach to mental health involves working with the client as a team to identify and address their mental health needs. Michael earned his Master's in Nursing from Ohio State University, a Master's in Business Administration from Ohio University, and a Bachelor's degree from Excelsior University.
Prior to completing his advanced nursing degree, his experience in mental health care began as a patient care technician and then as a psychiatric registered nurse at The Ohio State University. Mike is a retired Army Veteran with a special passion for helping those suffering from trauma and addiction.
Michael has experience in adult inpatient mental health, outpatient mental health, medication-assisted treatment for addictions, and Veterans mental healthcare. He also has extensive emergency management training, certifications, and experience.

At A Healthy Brain Psychiatry, we work together with the client using a patient-centered therapeutic approach. Our team is compassionate, opened minded, non-judgmental, and treat everyone equally with kindness and respect. We keep communication channels open and have quick response times. Patient concerns are typically addressed within an hour even after normal business hours.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
The initial appointment consists of a 60-minute psychiatric evaluation, which includes a diagnostic assessment and establishing a treatment plan. The following appointments consists of 30-minute follow-up appointments, which involve medication management and incorporated psychotherapy.
New patients will receive an email from A Healthy Brain Psychiatry and an email from Headway; which is the billing company that will bill the insurance. These emails need to be completed prior to the scheduled appointment time.
Normal business hours are as follows:
Monday 9am to 10pm
Tuesday 9am to 10pm
Wednesday 9am to 10pm
Thursday 9am to 5pm
Friday 9am to 5pm
Saturday 9am to 12pm
Sunday 9am to 12pm

My appointment was confirmed a few hours after I sent the appointment request and I had my appointment the next day. Mr. Barnes has a calm demeanor and is an active listener. He asked the intake questions, listened closely, and asked follow up question when needed, but never inappropriately or speculatively.
