Dr. Michael Caponi, PsyD

Psychologist
IL
I have extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and adults across a range of settings. I believe in the client's ability to change and in the power of the therapeutic relationship to facilitate healing. Areas of interest include depression, anxiety, men's issues, lifespan challenges, coping skills, grief and loss, self-esteem, stress management, trauma, high-functioning autism, and supporting clients through phases of ambiguity and transition. I work with individuals, couples, and families. My approach is empathic and individualistic, and I use my strengths effectively with adults 18+, adolescents, and children 10+. Utilizing a collaborative therapeutic relationship, my goal is to understand a client's unique perceptions and decisions to gain insight into how these influence the cognitive map they use to navigate thoughts, behavior, and emotion. Healing is facilitated by developing more effective coping and problem-solving skills. My orientation is non-judgmental, holistic, and Adlerian, informed by my training at Adler University (PsyD). I use a strength-based approach to encourage self-efficacy, increase adaptation, and improve intra- and interpersonal functioning. I build awareness of the motivation underlying clients' movement using cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and mindfulness techniques. If you have questions, feel free to call or email.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
