Dr. Michael Fiori is a double board-certified psychiatrist (Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine) practicing at Talkiatry. He has practiced general psychiatry for 37 years, and has also sub-specialized in Addiction Psychiatry for the past 20 years.
Dr. Fiori graduated from Amherst College and received his medical degree from NY Medical College. He subsequently completed his residency in psychiatry at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC. He excelled in Academic Psychiatry as both a teacher and a mentor. His practice has always combined medications with evidence-based therapies to alleviate suffering and maximize functioning.
Dr. Fiori's practice emphasizes Diagnostic Clarification, which is an ongoing process. He is highly trained and experienced in the biological and psychosocial underpinnings of psychiatric problems. He typically follows diagnostic evaluations with 30-minute follow up visits for medication adjustments and brief therapy. Dr. Fiori often enjoys collaborating with outside therapists when needed.
In addition to his work as a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist, he has specialized in helping patients suffering from Substance Use Disorders. Dr. Fiori is Board Certified in Addiction Medicine, and helps patients understand the interrelationships between their Substance Use Disorders and their Psychiatric illnesses.

We start with a comprehensive first visit, where you and your provider will discuss your goals, medical history, and what brings you to treatment. From there, you’ll work with your provider to create a care plan that feels right for you, which may include medication, therapy, or both. If your provider recommends medication, they’ll walk you through your options—our goal is always to help you make informed choices about your care. You’ll meet with your provider regularly for follow-up visits to check in, adjust your care as needed, and make sure you feel supported in your journey.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

This is not about the provider but it about the ZocDoc service.
I was frustrated to find that the provider I had booked was not available for weekly therapy sessions. There was no way to know this from the information on the ZocDoc site. I received many automated emails and texts about the appointment during the whole month that I waited for it but could not speak to a person who could tell me specifics about the provider. The app was also confusing to use. I was very disappointed that I reached out for help with mental health but instead felt like I had a purely transactional experience akin to buying a book on Amazon.

I am happy to share my review of Dr. Michael Fiori, a psychiatric professional who has been instrumental in helping me manage my long history of anxiety. I have been treated in different countries, but Dr. Fiori stands out as one of the most compassionate and effective doctors I have encountered.
One of the things that impressed me the most about Dr. Fiori is his patience. He took the time to listen to my concerns and quickly grasped the nature of my problem. He identified the root cause of my anxiety and worked with me to develop a treatment plan that addressed both the physical and emotional aspects of my condition.
Another aspect of Dr. Fiori's practice that I appreciate is his respect for the prescriptions of other doctors. Rather than insisting on a complete overhaul of my treatment plan, he took the time to review my medical history and made adjustments where necessary. This approach gave me the confidence to trust his judgment and helped me to feel like I was in good hands.

Dr. Fiore was helpful and have me resources. He did not want to treat me via video and said I should be seen in-person and that unfortunately wasn’t available in his practice. While I did not ultimately take his advice and schedule something on his referral list, I appreciated his perspective on my next steps and my diagnosis and ended up going back to my previous Psychiatrist.
