About Dr. Michael Fitzgerald
Dr. Michael J Fitzgerald is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hand and upper extremity surgery. He treats both adults and children and has a special interest in conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. He was first drawn to orthopedic surgery because it allowed him to help people get back to doing what they love.
Dr. Fitzgerald graduated Summa Cum Laude with top honors from the College of the Holy Cross and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He also was an All-American three years in a row on the division 1 varsity rowing team. After college, Dr. Fitzgerald attended Stony Brook School of Medicine where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society for academic excellence. He also was elected by his peers to the Gold Humanism Honor Society for his dedicated patient care.
Dr. Fitzgerald completed his five year residency in orthopedic surgery at Northwell/Hofstra School of Medicine with rotations at Northshore University Hospital, Long Island-Jewish Medical Center, Cohen Children's Medical Center, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He received the Resident Research Award for his commitment to advancing the field of hand surgery and his work has been featured at numerous national conferences. As a chief resident, he was awarded a scholarship for his clinical excellence in orthopedics. He was also elected to the American Orthopedic Association's Emerging Leaders Program, a distinction reserved for only 10% of practicing orthopedic surgeons in the nation. He then completed further training in complex hand and extremity reconstruction with a fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
Dr. Fitzgerald is a native New Yorker and treats patients in Westchester and New York City.
