About Dr. Michael Gillman
Dr Gillman is a pioneer in outpatient joint replacement surgery and custom patient-specific joint replacements. He performed the 1st known outpatient total knee replacement in Orange County California in 2011. As per a Stryker Analytics objective evaluation done of every joint replacement surgery done in the hospital over a 3 year period, Dr Gillman ranked 1st out of 16 surgeons in the following categories: Lowest readmission rate within 90 days to the hospital 4% vs group average of 8% Lowest average length of hospital stay 1.4 days vs group average of 2.8 days Lowest rate of discharge to skilled nursing care 15% vs group average of 27% (Dr Gillman's patients went home 85% of the time) despite Dr Gillman's patients having 1/2 the length of hospital stay as the average surgeon's patients. In addition, Dr Gillman has 4 issued patents for custom joint replacement. He is the inventor of the Bullseye Hip Replacement instruments. These custom 3D printed instruments have been validated by the leading academic joint replacement expert in the world Professor Alister Hart. Professor Hart was founder and co-directs the world's largest failed implant retrieval center where he collects failed implants from 500 surgeons in 25 countries. Professor Hart has shown Dr Gillman's Bullseye instruments to improve the accuracy in placing the acetabular component by 90% relative to traditional standard techniques. These instruments will reduce error rates and the need for largely unnecessary redo hip replacements.

Patient reviews for Dr. Michael Gillman
He is a caring and very excellent doctor. He thinks conservatively about surgery. e did an excellent job on my knee replacement and my therapist raves about his surgery.
Amazing doctor and staff.
To visit with the doctor is very short, he was very matter-of-fact about the treatment, and would not even look at the MRIs that I brought along. He also was not very receptive to my questions regarding the surgery he was recommending Very disappointed that I was not able to leave feeling confident about Dr. Gilman
Excellent quality and service
Excellent doctor and great staff.
Great ortho. Have been going to him for 4 years and he has done one surgery already which was sucesssfull. New issue with other knee being treated conservatively, but he will do the total knee if needed. Really does give you the wide range of options and is not quick to suggest surgery. Paul S.
He went over my X-rays and pointed out the bone-on-bone in my knee. He discussed options such as injections, PRP & joint replacement.
I took my 10 year old in because he has been having knee pain. Our wait time was short, and thanks to zocdoc all the paperwork was done before we even came in to the office. Dr. Gilman was nice while to the point. The diagnosis isn’t in yet, but so far so good.
Dr. Gilman is fantastic and he took me in right away. The problem is your app did not book the appointment even with an Email confirmation, but Dr. Gilman took me in anyway.
Most professional and well-run doctor's office I have ever been to. Everything was taken care of immediately, efficiently and accurately.
VERY efficient office. Dr.Gilman was so very nice and helpful, easy to talk to, and took care of my problem promptly. Answered my questions, made me better....couldn't ask for more.
Efficient, kind and caring doctor and office staff. Came in with possible wrist fracture - X-ray, doctor visit, casting by doctor all done in less then 45 minutes. Dr. Gillman is the best. I wouldn't consider anyone else and now everyone in my family has had a visit with him in the last 6 years. 5 stars!??????????
RECCOMEND HIM HIGHLY
Getting to the right building was a bit confusing
Professional, intelligent, efficient doctor with a very positive and reassuring attitude. Very glad to have him.
After reviewing my MRI and X-ray s taken in office ,Dr Gillman explained diagnosis and treatment options clearly. The staff are friendly and efficient.A pleasant experience that should be emulated by all physicians offices.
Although Dr. Gillman moves fast, he is very professional, efficient, has an cheerful approachable bedside manner and takes the time to answer any questions. I had a previous encounter/surgery done by Dr. Gillman and was very satisfied with the entire experience and outcome. There was a little confusion at check-in as the front desk nurse was not aware that I made the appt. through ZocDoc and so my chart wasn't pull. Once she was made aware of the oversight, she got me in right away!
Great guy, professional, nice staff.
I made a significant effort to see Dr. Gillman in Orange in the middle of my work day because my prior experiences with him had been positive. Let me preface everything I am about to say by emphasizing that the office staff was extremely helpful and customer-focused. But, I booked through ZocDoc and filled out online forms only to find out that the general office did not accept the forms and I had to fill out a sea of paperwork by hand anyway. Then, I came to find out my insurance was not accepted even though I had researched it on Dr. Gillman's site. That could have been my error. I then agreed to pay out of pocket as I had driven 20+ miles to get there for a consultative visit. The visit cost range was higher than I had hoped but I was willing to pay it for what I thought would be a comprehensive consultation. When I was called for my appointment, Dr. Gillman spent approximately 3 minutes with me, if that. Without going into detail, suffice it to say that the whole experience was so rushed that I could not even get my thoughts together to ask the many questions I have. I found myself giving up in frustration. To add insult to injury, I was charged at the middle of the quoted range for the visit. Again, if the visit had been a true consultative visit, I would have been fine with the cost. However, the visit was very disappointing. I like Dr. Gillman and had previously thought he was a caring physician. He was not unkind during this visit, but was definitely rushing somewhat impatiently. I felt "processed" rather than "cared for". Perhaps today was a bad day, but I doubt I will go back to him. I've already reached out to a friend for a second opinion referral. Bedside manner is everything!
Always positive and cheerful but caring and professional
Zoc doc did not sync with medical office.
The receptionist was not friendly at all and made me feel un welcome because I made my appointment online and it didn't show up in their system and made me feel like I was an inconvenience to them. However the doctor more than made up for it. He was caring and energetic and happy, he was very thorough and professional.
Dr. Gillman is a very good doctor. He is thorough in his explanations , caring, and to the point. He gave me the time needed to allow me to ask questions which is very important when one has a medical issue. His staff is very nice and accommodating. Highly recommend.
Friendly, fast and efficient.
Dr Gillman is a great Dr. He listens and investigates the underlying problem before coming to a solution. These traits are hard to find in a Orthopaedic surgeons office today. Most surgeons I have come across are extremely knife happy. If you are looking for a great surgeon I definitely suggest you give Dr. Gillman a shot!
I felt very rushed. Every time I wanted to say something or ask something he interrupted me as if he knew what I was going to say already. They need to space out appointments more to allow more time. I didn't feel good at all after and the only reason I didnt give 0 stars is because he gave me the prescriptions I wanted.
He is fast, friendly and professional. Totally understands my concerns and is willing to work with me on my goals and recovery. 10 out of 10.
They would not the insurance
I enjoyed the super prompt service Dr. Gillman provided, It was a a no no nonsense approach. I was in and out of his office in less than 30 minutes, including ex rays of three different areas of my body, two quick discussions on his expert opinion. I was not looking for a long drown out visit, this is what I wanted, this what I got. His credentials speak for themselves. As for the DocZoc issue, I knew they were on separate data bases form the go and only had to tell them I had scheduled via ZocDoc, I had to fill out a 5 min medical history. Thank You Dr Gillman!!!
I had a very positive experience from beginning to end - the staff were professional and efficient; Dr. Gillman was very personable and I appreciated the time he took to answer my questions and present me with my options, without feeling like I was being rushed thru! I also really like being able to book my appts online thru ZocDoc! Great job, everyone!! Thanks! :-) Jean
This was for a second opinion. Dr. Gillman, MD gave me the same answer as the first Dr.
Was through pleasant and explained condition (s)
Dr. Gillman was wonderful. He knew exactly what what going on with me and the steps for treatment. The front staff is absolutely horrible. Very unfriendly and unorganized.
I was upset that twice I was scheduled for repair on a torn meniscus and both times my surgery was canceled. First time the day before and the next time in the operating room. Reason being a slight heart murmur ( which I had checked by a cardiologist previously) and high blood pressure which was due to the stress and pain I was in. Now my blood pressure is back to normal. Also his office set an apt with a cardiologist witho prior contact to me. I saw her I liked her but rec'd a call the next day from her office saying she made a mistake and they did not take my insurance....I now have a new orthopedic doctor. it was a very stressful situation to say the least.
Dr. Gillman is great very knowledgeable straight forward & professional. I've seen him 4 times now and waited less than 5 minutes every each visit.
We shall see how my treatment works out and how quickly my foot gets better.
Highly recommend. From the staff to Dr Gillman, extremely nice and professional. He is not ready to jump on the surgery wagon, although if I need it, I would be secure in knowing I was in good hands. Thank you for your kindness Dr. And staff.
He was very polite and informative. The wait time was minimal. I would definitely return if I needed to!
I wasn't convinced of the diagnosis at the time, and now months later I'm less convinced since I have the same problem despite the treatment.
Office staff was horrible. The woman at the front desk was having a bust morning and was very rude to me in front of the entire waiting room. We were all in shock of how rude she was. If doc wasn't so good, I would never go back because of his staff.
He was very nice and ethic!
Excellent. This was my first visit with Dr. Gillman, and I was so very happy. He was so informative, answered my questions completely, and gave me such good news about my upcoming knee surgery. His bedside manner is wonderful, I felt so comfortable with him, and I have complete confidence in him that my surgery will be a total success.
He was good and helped me with my shoulder pain.
Dissapointed that I had done all my new patient info online through ZocDoc but on arrival the office person said thier system was not connected and thus I had to fill it out again. Failure of Zoc Doc or office?
So far, very satisfied. More treatment to come so the outcome is pending.
