“Dr. McClurkin was a pleasure to be seen by. I felt like he heard and validated my issue without coddling his responses or seeking to immediately remedy my issue with a prescription. I appreciate his overall demeanor and way of communicating and would be happy to continue working with him or recommending him to someone else.”

“I have been searching for a psychiatrist for quite sometime. I was under the care of a neurologist/psychiatrist who was not providing the necessary treatment that I was in need of for my immediate and long term mental wellbeing, I thought I take a chance on Zoc Doc to search for a psychiatrist who will understand my mental health as I am also treated for other serous medical issues. My objective was to find a psychiatrist who understood my needs, one who can provide the right diagnosis, treatment for long term mental & emotional wellbeing There are many good doctors out there, However I was seeking a Dr with a solid educational background & training with specific amount of solid experience to date. Dr. McClurkin’s profile stood out with all the above, Im extremely happy w: Dr McClurkin, Easy to communicate. My sessions are positive, Keep in mind It does take several visits to understand if it’s the right fit. My mental health is in a positive phase moving forward. ”

My approach is integrative and grounded in psychodynamic principles, while also incorporating evidence-based techniques and, when appropriate, medication management. I encourage clients to actively explore their inner world, confront limiting patterns, and challenge themselves to move beyond their comfort zones. I have extensive experience treating a broad spectrum of mental health concerns, including anxiety, ADHD, addiction, depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, and other chronic mental illnesses. Depending on each client’s unique needs and goals, I tailor our work together—whether it’s through in-depth psychotherapy, focused medication management, or goal-oriented coaching.

Honestly, I've never had a psychiatrist or anything, thus being my first experience. I felt like he didn't care about what I was saying, and his demeanor was very off-putting.

I wouldn't recommend him at all. Bedside manners are non-existent, he should try to learn ways of speaking to patients who are sharing details about their life and be more careful with his words. It was not a welcoming experience.

His bedside manner was pretty surprising. From the moment he joined the call, Dr. McClurkin seemed incredibly frustrated and cold, even before I spoke. He did not ask me prompting questions to learn more about why I was going into therapy until I asked him if he needed to know more about me. Perhaps he's a better therapist once you work with him for a bit, but I was surprised and off-put by his demeanor. He seemed uninterested, and honestly a bit annoyed at my appointment. He also never sent the follow-up summary he said he would send.

Incredible psychiatrist! Very up to date on the current medical practices and he’s efficient in getting what you need. Highly recommend!
Video visit
The doctor was very calm and took in all of my information which was A LOT and a bit hard to follow but he was patient, understanding and very nice. He gave me the floor, didn't ask any questions that were not spot on and, in the end, really helped me deal with my upset. I would highly recommend him.

I would personally not recommend this psychiatrist. I had an initial consult visit and found it far less comprehensive than any other psychiatrist I have seen. I was not sent any intake paperwork or assessments prior to my appointment. When the visit started I was asked what brought me in, and I did my best to give an overview, but was surprised by how few follow-up questions I was asked - including never being asked to specify my symptoms or clarify their duration. The visit lasted last then 30 minutes and ended with the doctor sharing his recommendation and giving an rx. I may have just caught him on an off day, as it seems from other reviews people have had positive experiences. But I decided to personally seek a second consultation with someone more thorough.

Great demeanor and very thoughtful.

Had high hopes for this doc based on his bio and other reviews. I don't think he knew we had an appointment. He joined after I sent an email. When we finally connected he looked down and away from the camera almost the entire time. When he greeted me he never looked up at the camera and asked "how can i help you?". I was uncomfortable and just thrown off by the question. It was so awkward. Anyway he seemed to lighten up and engage a little bit as I discussed my background. He ended by saying he would email me with his thoughts and feedback. I waited a couple days and he basically sent me what looked and read like a Chatgpt summary of what I shared. No thoughts or feedback given. I thought I should give it another chance and booked again. He was more engaged this time and again said he would share his thoughts and feedback over email. I didn't receive any emails from him but did receive an email weeks later from his portal platform asking me to fill out some questionaires. I didnt.

Amazing Experience!!!
Verified patientVideo visit
Do NOT see him. He took on my case. I seemed to know more than him. I had a very negative experience with this psychiatrist. I was put on disintegrating Klonopin tablets that caused allergic reactions due to the additives, even though I had done well on the regular pill form. When I explained this, I was not listened to. My dose was lowered from the 0.5 mg twice daily that had previously kept me stable, which increased my anxiety. I was also told to stop other medications cold turkey, without proper follow-up or safety monitoring. When I tried to advocate for myself, I received a late-night text dismissing my concerns and telling me to find another provider, which left me without adequate care or support. This felt unprofessional and unsafe. Patients deserve individualized care and respectful communication, and I did not experience that here

I had a great experience with Michael McClurkin, MD! I am in the process of moving back to the US after living abroad for multiple years, and Dr. McClurkin was a great listener and was able to set up my medication management in our first visit. He is very easy to talk to and incredibly knowledgable, I feel so much more at ease about the whole moving process thanks to him! I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable Psychiatrist!

Dr. McClurkin really listened to me and asked pointed questions to help me dig deeper into what I have been feeling. He is very intelligent but doesn’t make me feel spoken down to or less than him. I would highly recommend him.

Incredible doctor, provider, and supporter at a personal level also! Dr. McClurkin strives to truly listen and understand your needs and provides you options quickly. I felt seen and heard in my medical concerns and he intelligently and empathetically supported me in solving my medical condition, collaboratively. I look forward to continuing working with Dr. McClurkin!

Really brilliant - approaches patient care with a holistic mindset. It’s rare to find a clinical doctor who not only understands, but values the long term success and health of their patients. He listed very attentively and provided many non-clinical tools and supplements for my overall wellbeing. 10/10 would recommend as I already have! Gem of a find.

Amazing! Dr. McClurkin is both kind and efficient. He really listens to your needs and is a really great provider especially for young employees working in New York City.
