Getting to know Michael Nguyen

I'm a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner passionate about helping individuals achieve better mental health and overall well-being. With my Master's degree from UCSF and years of clinical experience, I provide comprehensive psychiatric care through medication management, evaluation, and supportive therapy. I specialize in treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, and other mood disorders. My approach is collaborative and patient-centered—I work closely with each person to understand their unique needs, concerns, and treatment goals. I believe that effective mental health care requires building trust, open communication, and mutual respect. My services include thorough psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing support throughout your treatment journey. I offer telehealth appointments to accommodate your schedule and preferences, making quality mental health care more accessible and convenient. What I value most is creating a safe, non-judgmental environment where patients feel comfortable discussing their mental health challenges. I'm committed to reducing stigma around mental illness and providing education that empowers patients to make informed decisions about their care. I stay current with the latest developments in psychiatric treatment and utilize modern tools to enhance the quality of our sessions. My goal is always to find the most effective treatment approach while minimizing complexity and side effects. Whether you're seeking help for the first time or looking to optimize your current treatment, I'm here to support you. I accept most major insurance plans and am dedicated to making mental health care both accessible and effective for everyone.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Please note: I do not accept EAP programs. As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I've dedicated my practice to helping people find genuine relief through personalized, evidence-based medication management. Every person's brain chemistry, circumstances, and treatment goals are different, and that's why a one-size-fits-all approach has no place in quality psychiatric care. Our first visit includes an in-depth, comprehensive evaluation that reaches beyond your present symptoms. We'll review your full medical history, your past experiences with medication, how you've responded to treatment, and your personal preferences. I want to understand what you've tried before, what helped or didn't, and how those earlier treatments played out over time. I'm just as interested in how your symptoms are affecting your daily life, your relationships, your career, and your broader sense of well-being and identity. I believe well-informed clients make the strongest partners in their own care, so I take time to explain in plain, accessible language how medications work, the benefits and risks they may involve, and realistic timelines for noticing improvement. All of your questions are welcome, and I'll always make room for you to voice any concerns, hesitations, or doubts. If a recommendation doesn't feel right to you, please let me know, so we can explore alternatives together and find an approach that fits you better. As we continue working together, I'll carefully track how you're responding to treatment and stay flexible in adjusting our plan based on your feedback and clinical progress. I work closely with therapists and other providers to keep your care comprehensive and well coordinated, and I'm available between scheduled appointments when urgent concerns or side effects arise. Whether you're seeking psychiatric care for the first time or transitioning from another provider, I'll meet you exactly where you are with patience and understanding.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Please note: I do not accept EAP programs. When you work with me, you'll have a psychiatric provider who combines clinical rigor with sincere care at every visit. I specialize in medication management, and I approach it with intention, taking the time to fully understand each person before offering any recommendations. Your first appointment usually lasts about 60 minutes. During that time, I'll complete a comprehensive evaluation that covers your psychiatric and medical history, your current symptoms, and the treatments and medications you've tried before. Beyond the clinical details, I also want to learn about your daily life, the people who support you, and what feeling better would really mean for you. I'm experienced with a broad range of medication classes and keep up with new and emerging treatments, while also recognizing that people don't always respond to medications the way textbooks predict. That's why ongoing communication is central to my practice. Whenever you start or adjust a medication, I'll explain what to expect and encourage you to share both your progress and any concerns openly. I believe that an informed patient is an empowered patient, and I make sure you never feel unsure about your treatment plan. Follow-up appointments generally last 20 to 30 minutes and focus on evaluating how well your treatment is working, managing any side effects, and fine-tuning your regimen as your progress needs. Finding the right approach can take time, and I'll be with you every step of the way, adapting as your needs evolve and remaining available between visits when questions arise. Mental health care is never one-size-fits-all, and I take real pride in customizing each plan to fit the unique circumstances, goals, and values of the person I'm working with. My goal is to help you manage your symptoms effectively so you can focus your energy on the life you want to live, while feeling like a true partner in your care who is fully supported and understood.
