Getting to know Michael Okeke
I am a talented and board-certified mental health nurse practitioner with great passion and a strong relationship with patients and their families. I act as an advocate for my patients to achieve the best possible outcomes. I am skilled at assessing chronic comorbidities in mentally ill adults, the elderly, and children by providing counseling, medication management, and coordination of care. I am recognized as a leader who has a deep passion for the recovery and maintenance of the quality of life of my patients.
I am experienced in assessing and treating ADHD, learning disorders, developmental disorders, autism spectrum disorder, academic difficulties, and emotional instability. In addition, I provide psychological therapy for adults and children, diagnosis, and medication management of clients with developmental disorders and traumatic brain injury with co-occurring psychiatric/mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, self-injurious behaviors, schizoaffective disorders, aggression, and PTSD.
I hold a Master’s degree in Adult Health Nursing from the University of West Florida and a Master’s in Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I am a nurse practitioner board certified in addictions, and mental health, with 12 years of experience providing general mental health services, and specific mental health conditions like ADHD, Autism, learning disorder, anxiety, and depression.
My appointments start with an evaluation where I ask some questions, and listen intently, and together, we will formulate a plan of care for you that is easy to adhere to. I prioritize all your concerns. I provide some psychotherapy or may refer you to a psychologist for talk therapy and other modalities.
A typical initial visit with me takes about 45 minutes during which your plan of care will be developed. I expect you to adhere to the plan of care, and come for your visits either in person or via telehealth. I believe that progress is made with consistent care and adherence to appointments.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
So, I utilize some diagnostic tools and questionnaires. If you are already diagnosed, we can continue with medication management and therapy. We do offer talk therapy .
