About Dr. Michael Saruk

Dr. Saruk received his Doctor of Medicine from Rush University Medical College in Chicago. After completing his internship at Columbia, he pursued a residency in pathology at Yale University, followed by a fellowship in dermatopathology at Yale. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania for his dermatology residency. Prior to establishing a private practice, Dr. Saruk was an assistant professor of dermatology and pathology at the University of Pittsburgh, where he founded the University?s Pigmented Lesion Clinic, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma and related disorders. Currently, Dr. Saruk is a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his clinical teaching responsibilities at Penn, he actively participates in the dermatologic training of primary care physicians at the Christiana Care Health System. An innovator with a profound commitment to his field, Dr. Saruk was the first to bring Mohs Micrographic Surgery to Delaware over a decade ago. The treatment of skin cancer and the science of dermatopathology are particular interests of his. He treats many skin cancers, frequently employing the Mohs Surgery procedure (for further details, click on Mohs Surgery under Our Services). He was also the first in the state to offer Narrow Band UVB phototherapy services, which have become the standard treatment for a variety of hard-to-treat disorders, including psoriasis. Dr. Saruk participates in clinical trials of new investigational and licensed medications for the pharmaceutical industry. He is a consultant to numerous drug companies and a sought-after national lecturer. He is board certified in anatomic pathology, dermatopathology, and dermatology. Dr. Saruk has authored numerous publications and is the co-author of a pathology text. He is also a member of numerous medical organizations, including a fellowship in the American Academy of Dermatology and the US and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
