He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. He completed his residency in psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina, followed by a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he served as Chief Fellow. He is dually board certified in both adult and child psychiatry. Upon completion of his fellowship, he was hired at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he worked in the Center for Management of ADHD. There, he was engaged in patient care as well as multiple initiatives to increase both patient access and quality of treatment. He has spoken at both local and national levels on topics including autism spectrum disorder, challenges encountered by transitional-aged youth, anxiety disorders, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Dr. Volkert has a dynamic and empathetic approach that focuses on challenges and opportunities for growth. He understands that the patients he treats have rich and complex inner lives and may not always fit neatly into discrete diagnostic criteria.
