Michelle Bengzon, LMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist
NY
Do you keep finding yourself in the same painful patterns — choosing the wrong partner, having the same conflict, replaying an event from years ago, or feeling out of control? Many clients come to me asking the same question, and wondering if love and determination are enough. I work with individuals and couples to identify and break the patterns driving disconnection in relationship with yourself and with the people around you, and interrupt loud spiraling thoughts. Together, we slow down, build emotional regulation, explore cultural and family dynamics, rebuild trust and emotional connection so you can feel safe and at ease.

Getting to know Michelle Bengzon

Do you keep finding yourself in the same painful patterns — choosing the wrong partner, having the same conflict, replaying an event from years ago, or feeling out of control? Many clients come to me asking the same question, and wondering if love and determination are enough. I work with individuals and couples to identify and break the patterns driving disconnection in relationship with yourself and with the people around you, and interrupt loud spiraling thoughts. Together, we slow down, build emotional regulation, explore cultural and family dynamics, rebuild trust and emotional connection so you can feel safe and at ease.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I incorporate Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Family of Origin work to help clients understand themselves and the people they love. I guide clients with exercises to practice better communication, successful repairs after conflict, and the tools to build relationships that feel secure with others and within yourself. Trust is an important factor in finding the right therapist. Sessions with me are warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive. If you're ready to strengthen your confidence in yourself and in your relationships, build better conflict and communication patterns, and feel safer and closer. Let's chat for 15 minutes. I may be exactly who you're looking for.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first few sessions will be me getting to know more about your internal and external world -- your narratives, your childhood experiences, and the people who you grew up with. This allows me to understand the pattern that you are wanting to break free from, and create better habits to feel less anxious in relationships with others and yourself. We will be incorporating some exercises in sessions, and I will be suggesting some exercises or homework to do outside of sessions. You will also get the chance to know about me. First, I am human. I like to be myself with clients, which means our sessions will feel more conversational so that you feel comfortable in our sessions. I dive and am more specific on how our sessions will look like tailored to what you're looking to achieve in our 15-min call.
