What should a new client know about working with you?

My practice provides gender affirming, anti-racist, sex-positive, body-positive, poly/CNM affirming, feminist, and culturally responsive care. Together my clients and I strive to cultivate a space of curiosity, non-judgment, compassion, respect, flexibility, and humility.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I want to say that the process of finding a therapist can be difficult! If we meet for a consultation, I aim to work collaboratively to determine the most helpful path forward for you. Even before we meet, we will schedule a brief phone call for a quick overview of what brings you in and what you're looking for. Working within a psychodynamic framework, one of my roles in therapy is to help you make sense of your experiences and emotions, thereby increasing your ability to navigate your life in a fulfilling way. Whatever issues might bring you in, I believe that becoming more intimately familiar with your feelings is an important part of treatment. I work with people to better understand the sources of their emotions because I believe understanding, instead of hiding from fear and shame, provides self-acceptance and consequently relief. I additionally incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills so that you can learn how to better cope and be more effective in day to day living. Other parts of the treatment may include exploring early relationships and how they influence expectations, fears, wants, and actions in the current day. I also work within the therapeutic relationship, using the experience of therapy itself as a healing mechanism. The ultimate goal is for you to feel empowered and free to create the life you want.
