About Dr. Mihal Emberton

I was born to two UC Berkeley-trained chemists and am the oldest of three children. I graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in biochemistry-cell biology in 1996 and got my Master of Science in biology a year later. While nurturing a career in research and education, I then received my Master of Public Health from UCLA in 2001. My passion for science, education, and social justice culminated in a medical education for which I received my MD in 2007, explored an internship in general surgery for a year, and graduated from my family medicine residency in 2011. I am passionate about human health and well-being, driving social justice, and reforming the systems in which we live and work to become ones that support our wellness and sustainability. At home, I am married to an amazing woman who volunteers endlessly to ensure the sustainability of our community, and we have a thriving daughter who is (too quickly for me) beginning to embark on the adventure of adulthood. And one of my biggest joys is nurturing our diverse and flourishing garden with more than 45 trees contributing to the urban canopy, countless edible and flowering plants, and an arbor that hosts monthly book clubs as well as civic and community gatherings. My health and happiness is supported by my foundational and wonderful relationships with my family and friends, my curation of our outdoor spaces, my efforts to effect positive social change, and my invaluable connections with my colleagues and patients.
