Getting to know Dr. Miriandra De Jesus Rivera
Hi everyone!
I am Dr. De Jesus Rivera, medical director at Self Improvement Psychiatry. I treat English- and Spanish-speaking adults 18 years or older. SIP was created out of a community need for high-quality, top-notch psychiatric and mental health services through telemedicine appointments. I spend a full 90 minutes on our first visit together and do an in-depth evaluation without you feeling rushed. Together, we come up with a treatment plan that you feel comfortable with. We also have a HIPAA-compliant texting system for easy communication and timely responses should any problems arise between appointments.
Although I treat a range of mental illnesses, I specialize in mood disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and borderline personality disorder. I understand the importance of being heard and validated beyond just writing prescriptions. I aim to provide a comprehensive evaluation and make you feel comfortable enough to share your problems with me. I am available for free 15-minute consultations to see if I am the best fit for you.
I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and completed my residency in Psychiatry at Jackson Memorial Hospital. I also hold a bachelor's degree from Universidad de Puerto Rico.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Once you book your appointment through ZocDoc, we will contact you within the first 24 hours via email and phone call. You will receive a link to pay a $65 deposit to keep your appointment. This deposit will go towards the total cost of your visit that will be due the day of your appointment. You will also receive several forms that need to be filled out to provide you with the best care possible.
On the day of your appointment, you will receive a video link at the time of your visit. We aim to provide a comprehensive evaluation that can last 60-90 mins. This gives ample of time for you to open up about your problems and discuss details about your treatment with a family member if you choose to do so. We also provide psychotherapy since day 1 of your treatment and will recommend other providers if you would benefit from someone elses expertise. Once your appointment is done, we can remain in contact through the HUCU messaging app for easy HIPAA compliant texting in between appointments. Most of my patients appreciate having relatively easy access to their physician. Our process is designed to be as easy as possible for the patient and to help the patient achieve recovery.
