Getting to know Dr. Mohammed Mazharuddin

Dr. Mohammed Mazharuddin is a board-certified psychiatrist and the Founder of Ascend Psychiatry, integrating evidence-based treatment, interventional psychiatry, and holistic care. He completed his residency training at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center and New York- Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he developed a passion and expertise in treating complex mood and psychotic disorders, treatment-resistant depression, and acute psychiatric care. Dr. Mazharuddin previously served as Medical Director of NY Ketamine Infusions, where he oversaw clinical operations and gained extensive experience in the use of novel and interventional treatments for treatment-resistant mood disorders. In this role, he developed specialized expertise in ketamine-based therapies and the integration of emerging biological treatments into outpatient psychiatric practice.

What should a new client know about working with you?

At Ascend Psychiatry, your first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, not a rushed intake. Dr. Mazharuddin takes time to understand your full history, including prior treatments, medical factors, and how your symptoms are affecting your daily functioning. The goal is diagnostic clarity before any treatment decisions are made. From there, care is structured and measurable. We use validated clinical rating scales to track your symptoms over time, so treatment adjustments are based on objective data rather than guesswork. You can expect a collaborative relationship where your feedback shapes the plan. If you've tried medications without success, you're in the right place. We specialize in treatment-resistant depression and complex mood disorders, and we offer interventional options — including TMS and Spravato® — that go beyond traditional prescribing. We also take a whole-person view of mental health. Alongside clinical treatment, we look at the lifestyle factors that influence how your brain functions: sleep, nutrition, movement, social connection, and sense of purpose. These aren't afterthoughts — they're built into how we approach your care. Most major insurance plans are accepted, and our team will help you navigate coverage before your first appointment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The intake appointment will consist of a detailed history of the current issues facing the patient, as well as any significant medical/social conditions. At the conclusion of the intake appointment, a comprehensive treatment plan will be discussed and a follow-up appointment will be scheduled. Dr. Mazharuddin provides both medication management and talk therapy.
