What should a new client know about working with you?

Patients can expect a supportive, respectful, and nonjudgmental experience with Monissa. She understands that starting psychiatric care can feel overwhelming, especially when symptoms have affected your relationships, work, sleep, or daily routine. You do not need to have everything figured out before your first visit; the focus is on understanding what you are experiencing and identifying what support may help. Her style is collaborative, thoughtful, and practical. Monissa welcomes questions and values honest communication throughout the care process. Treatment may include medication management, education about symptoms and diagnoses, support with goal-setting and coping strategies, and referrals for therapy or other services when appropriate. Medication is one potential treatment tool, not the only solution. If medication is recommended, Monissa will explain why it may be helpful, what to expect, possible side effects, and how your response will be monitored. Your plan can be adjusted over time based on your preferences, progress, and changing needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first appointment typically includes a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. Monissa will discuss your current concerns and symptoms, mental health history, medical history, past treatments, medications, sleep, stressors, substance use, relationships, and goals for care. She will also review safety concerns and other factors that may affect treatment recommendations. Together, you will develop an individualized treatment plan based on your priorities. Depending on your needs, the plan may include medication management, education, symptom monitoring, coping strategies, and referrals for psychotherapy or other supportive services. If medication is started or changed, Monissa will review its purpose, expected benefits, possible side effects, and follow-up plan. Follow-up visits focus on your progress, daily functioning, medication response and tolerability, and any new concerns. Treatment is reviewed and adjusted collaboratively to help support meaningful, lasting improvement.
