“I saw Dr. Yasai for about two years. She helped me make the decision to retire early and with the difficult emotional transition from full-time work to retirement. She was a great fit for me, traditional in style but modern in technique ("old school but not old," as I told her). DC's loss is NYC's gain.”

Getting to know Dr. Mougeh Yasai

I am a New York State licensed clinical psychologist based on the Upper West Side and co-founder of Mind Matters Psychology Group. I specialize in couples therapy, adolescent developmental challenges, women’s health transitions (including prenatal, postnatal, and perimenopausal stages), addictive behaviors and disordered eating. I work with individuals and couples facing a wide range of emotional and behavioral concerns. My approach is collaborative, integrative, and grounded in empathy—helping clients gain insight, strengthen coping skills, and build healthier relationships. No matter what brings you to therapy, I recognize that reaching out for support can be one of the hardest steps. I look forward to learning more about you and supporting your growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy is a space for growth, healing, and self-discovery. In our work together, we’ll explore your thoughts and feelings to help you better understand yourself and what you need to thrive. My approach is interactive and collaborative—I believe in creating a safe, supportive environment where you can feel truly seen and heard. With over 10 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of working with adults and adolescents in individual, family, and couples therapy. I specialize in helping people navigate relationship challenges, perinatal, postnatal, perimenopause transitions, anxiety, anger management, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, and disordered eating. I see therapy as a place to reconnect with your strengths and move toward a more balanced, fulfilling life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Utilizing an integrative approach, I practice evidence-based therapies which include psychodynamic, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness skills, emotion-focused therapy, and CBT. Our work will focus on developing specific skills to target distressing feelings and behaviors and/or identifying problems that interfere with the quality of your life.

I will feel forever fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Yasai. So much of therapy depends on your connection with the therapist, and Dr. Yasai made it easy to connect--both in terms of her availability and understanding in scheduling appointments, as well as openness to building a personal relationship. I never doubted the sincerity of her interest in helping me, which she moreover succeeded in doing over the two years that we worked together. Indeed, her empathy in treatment manifests not only as a kind ear, but also as keen insight into the real (sometimes difficult) issues that you visit therapy to discuss. Anyone who seeks a therapist with the talent, courage, and sensitivity to reflect back one's true self will be as happy as I was with Dr. Yasai.
My daughter saw Dr. Yasai over the course of a few months, and we are so grateful for the help she provided. Dr. Yasai helped her work through her issues and helped me to understand better how I could help her too. Her kind manner helped my very shy and introverted girl open up and find ways to express herself, and how to speak up for herself. I highly recommend her!
I highly recommend Dr. Yasai. I've seen Mougeh for the past 2 years and never had such a great connection with any of my past therapists as I did with her. She is a master at putting you at ease, evaluating your concerns and providing comprehensive care in helping restore your health and well being. Mougeh has a very warm, friendly demeanor, is an excellent listener and comments at the right moment and with such insightfulness. I felt so comfortable with Mougeh and was able to confide in her more than anyone else I've met with. I truly cannot say enough positive things about Mougeh. I highly recommend Dr. Yasai. Mougeh - you are a wonderful gift to all who encounter you.
Dr. Yasai is a kind and thoughtful therapist who easily builds trust with young and old alike. She helps validate what her patients are feeling and yet challenges them on how to change behavior to better address life's problems. She is skilled in a variety of types of therapies and works with her patients to ensure successful outcomes.
