I value taking time to listen and understand my patients because every person is uniquely built and handles stress differently. I believe in working collaboratively with each patient in building a treatment plan best suited for them, as mental health treatment requires a holistic approach when addressing these issues. In addition, I value the educational aspects of care, including discussion of one's symptoms and the treatment options available, such a medication and non-medication strategies. I am Munachim I. Uyanwune, M.D, also fondly known as 'Dr. U'. I am a board-certified psychiatric doctor with over a decade of experience in providing care in different mental health settings focusing on disorders such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, post-partum blues and more. I competed and received dual degrees from the University of Connecticut, including a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in French. I obtained my medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and graduated with a combined M.D., M.B.A degree after receiving a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut School of Business. I completed my Psychiatry residency training at the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt Psychiatry Residency Program. After my training, I practiced at Sheppard Pratt Hospital for several years and subsequently worked other settings including community health and private practice. In addition to my career, I am deeply involved in my local community. I focus on uplifting mental health care through my volunteer work as a member of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Center for Workplace Mental Health advisory council. In addition, I serve families through my volunteer work with Maryland Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). I look forward to meeting you and helping you in this journey to mental wellness.
