Getting to know Dr. Nakeia Newton

My name is Dr. Nakeia Newton and I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental-Health Nurse Practitioner/ Doctor of Nursing Practice trained in psychiatry and wellness across the lifespan. I am a Philadelphia native, and I have been practicing psychiatric nursing since 2014. I obtained my undergraduate degree from Howard University where I graduated Magna Cum Laude, and my doctorate degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. I completed my final graduate internship at Sheppard Pratt in the Crisis Walk-In Clinic and Crisis Admission Unit where I gained experience in treating children, adolescents, and adults in psychiatric crises. I have a wide variety of professional experience including medical-psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, outpatient psychiatry, and substance use detox and rehabilitation. I have worked as a psychiatric nurse in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia and am skilled in treating diverse patient populations and diagnoses. I am passionate about reducing stigma and delivering holistic psychiatry to individuals struggling with mental wellness. My practice philosophy is grounded in treating the whole person: mind, body, and soul. My practice style is rooted in treating the whole person and guiding individuals to discover their own definitions of mental health and wellness. I aim to be more than a provider, but an ally on your journey to wellness. I love to write, writing poetry is a cathartic and healing experience for me. I’m also obsessed with natural skin care. I love blending shea butters and body oils with essential oils that nurture the healing powers of aromatherapy, and have co-founded a natural skin care line The Renewal Company.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My ideal client is anyone looking to take the first step on the journey of healing mind, body, and soul. I understand the tremendous courage it takes to choose healing. My goal is to deliver holistic psychiatry to individuals struggling to achieve mental wellness. My practice style is grounded in treating the whole person and guiding individuals in discovering their own unique definition of wellness.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At Renewal Mental Health and Wellness we understand that medications are just one component of treatment, and will explore behavioral, physical, social, and spiritual components that may also be contributing to presenting symptoms.
