What should a new client know about working with you?

I won't rush you. I'd rather take the time to get it right than move you through quickly. You'll get options, not a verdict. Some people want to find a medication that works better than what they've tried. Others want to consider medication only if other approaches don't help. I'll explain what I'd recommend and why, and where there's a real choice, it's yours. Patients often arrive worried about a diagnosis or a medication based on something they read. A lot of what I do is explaining. What a diagnosis actually means, how a medication works, what to expect. Bring your questions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You complete a streamlined intake form before we meet. I actually read it and note anything I want to ask about, so we're not doing paperwork during your session. At the first visit, we start with what’s been going on and what led you to schedule. I explore items that help lead to an accurate diagnosis. Then I lay out the options and the reasoning behind each. If we start a medication, we decide together how fast to increase it. Some people want a slow approach, others want relief sooner. That's your call. Early visits are close together while we watch for side effects. Once things are stable, they spread out.
