Getting to know Dr. Nathan Sklar

I earned my MD from Western Michigan University and completed my residency at the Medical College of Georgia. I have experience in diverse outpatient and inpatient psychiatry roles, including general outpatient psychiatry, hospital and emergency room consults, inpatient facilities, addiction psychiatry, and interventional psychiatry. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new restaurants with my wife, reading, weight lifting, playing video games with friends, and spending time with my cat, Gus. I enjoy getting to know patients as people, not just as symptoms to treat. I listen to patients tell their stories and support them through life events. I encourage patients to take an active role in their mental health and treatment course. I begin with a thorough history of present concerns, the patient’s life as a whole, and future goals. In follow-up sessions, I work with patients through both talk therapy and medications to reach their personal goals. I also coordinate care with other physicians and laboratories to get a full picture of the patient’s health.
