Getting to know Dr. Nathaniel Eckland

Problems like depression and anxiety can hold us back from living the life we want. Therapy can be challenging, but the rewards are often worth the investment. Through therapy, we can learn to change habits-both thinking and behavioral-that no longer serve us and learn to accept and face life's difficulties rather than avoid them. My role is supporting you in envisioning and working towards a fulfilling life. I strive to create a warm, collaborative, nonjudgmental environment where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself and challenging your limits. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a PhD in Clinical-Community Psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. I completed my internship at the University of Wisconsin and a fellowship at Washington University, St. Louis. I use evidence-based interventions to help clients experiencing depression, anxiety, and stress related to life events and health challenges. I primarily use interventions rooted in CBT but also draw on acceptance-based approaches such as DBT, ACT, and mindfulness-based interventions. I have a particular interest in neurodiversity and autism, supporting clients in navigating diagnoses, processing and identifying difficult emotions, and coping with mood or anxiety symptoms-especially among young adults. I provide culturally humble, LGBTQ+ and gender-affirming care to adolescents (14 and up) and adults (18-80+).
