- AWARDS and HONORS: Dr. and Mrs. Larry A. Cohen Award- This award is presented to five University of Georgia students who achieved the highest GPA in upper level pre- medical science classes. Resident Review Committee Election- The residents in our anesthesiology Program elected peers from each class to represent them to speak to the RRC during its visit in 2007. Best Journal Club Presentation 2007- The recipient of this award is chosen by the Education committee in our program. I am the first recipient of this awarded was presented it at the department senior dinner and banquet. House Officer Voting Member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee- I Was selected to this position in an election by the residents from every residency program at the Medical College of Georgia. Over twenty residents were in the running for the position, and I was elected to be the resident representative for the Graduate Medical Education Committee. Operative Room Institutional Committee- This committee is selected by the Anesthesiology Department attendings on a voting basis. I was selected as the resident representative in 2007 and 2008. Georgia Society of Anesthesiology Research Presentation- The Georgia Society of Anesthesiology selects four resident per year to present their research projects at the Winter meeting, and my research on smoking cessation was selected.
- Research and Academic Services- Clinical Research Project- I worked with Dr. Alvin Head, the chairman of Anesthesiology at the Medical College of Georgia,on a multi-center American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) smoking cessation clinical research project. Our results were accepted as an ASA abstract, and our research was presented at the October 2008 ASA national meeting. Journal Article- The Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia published my paper, which I had written as the first author, titled “Massive Thrombus in Transit Detected by Echocardiography” in April 2008. This is one of the top journals in the field of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, and the publication was a tremendous honor. C. Ronald Stephen Resident Essay Contest- William Hammonds, director of Pain Management at the Medical College of Georgia, and I composed an essay called “How Ether Became the Successful Anesthetic Agent.” We were selected as finalists for this prestigious national essay contest and were invited to present our paper at the national conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our essay won 2nd prize out the all the entries in the country and was published in a national journal as a winning essay. MCAT Class Teacher- I prepped up and coming medical students for the MCAT examination. I taught Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. Western Anesthesia Resident Conference- Loma Linda Department of Anesthesiology will be hosting the Western Anesthesia Residents Conference (WARC) May 1-3, 2009. My abstract on intrathecal pump complications was accepted for presentation. American Society of Anesthesiologists National Meeting Poster Presentation 2010- I presented a poster at the ASA national meeting October 2010 Titled “Intrathecal Pump Mystery.” Book Chapter- Robert Hurley (chief of pain medicine at University of Florida), Kacey Montgomery (resident) and I wrote a book chapter on Kyphoplasty for an interventional pain procedure book. Book Chapter- Andrea Trescot, a forefront lead in pain medicine and I wrote a book chapter on peripheral nerve blocks in a book called “Peripheral Nerve Entrapments” published in 2016.
