I am a psychotherapist, clinician and author. In my clinical work, I see people of all age groups: adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families. I have many years of clinical experience helping people with problems of anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and developmental problems of children and adolescents in school and at home. I have seen it all; I listen carefully and have a wide range of interventions at my disposal to address your needs.
In my work with children, I always involve families; when appropriate, I work with schools, pediatricians, learning specialists, occupational therapists, and other professionals. Work with adolescents often involves a complex mixture of anxiety, depression, peer problems, school problems, substance use and abuse, and seemingly intractable family conflicts. I have considerable experience navigating and negotiating all this challenging, even overwhelming, complexity.
The COVID pandemic and the unsettled state of the world leaves many people deeply unsettled and disoriented. There are very often multiple sources of these feelings; I find it helpful to keep these current factors in mind when patients present with anxiety, depression, and confusion about their lives, at the same time as I help people search for practical ways to get back on track.

Until I met with Dr. Altman, I felt vulnerable bringing my 5 year old son to a therapist because he was not fully toilet trained. Dr. Altman immediately put me and my son at ease, and before I knew it, my son made his first poop in Dr. Altman's office bathroom! I highly recommend Dr. Altman to any parents who are out of answers about how to deal with their young child.

With his warmth and intelligence, Dr. Altman helped me see why I was never been able to make a relationship work. Doors began to open for me and now I enjoy people in new ways. I highly recommend Dr. Altman.

I was surprised and pleased by the strong connection Neil was able to make with my 14 y/o daughter. At home she was very difficult and I was desperate for help. My daughter found such value in her sessions with Neil that there was no need to remind her of her therapy appointments! Neil's help was indispensible!
