Getting to know Nerisa Bryan

Please note that I do not accept Medicaid or Medicare plans (including Aetna Better Health and NJ FamilyCare). Also, if you are feeling suicidal, this is not the right service for you. Please visit the ER, as you need in-person care. Nerisa Bryan is experienced in the use of telemedicine. She holds an Associate's degree from Community College of Philadelphia, a Bachelor's degree from the College of New Rochelle, and a Master's in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Her goal is to appeal to a multicultural clientele while remaining sensitive to the uniqueness of each person. She uses evidence-based interventions with medication management while incorporating a holistic approach to wellness in an effort to make her clients whole again.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Since childhood, I have aspired to have a career that would enable me to promote wellness and heal the sick and infirmed. My career as a psychiatric nurse practitioner enables me to fulfill that goal. As a child, I witnessed adults in my neighborhood struggle with alcohol misuse, schizophrenia, and emotional instability, all while battling stigma, teasing, and bullying. I witnessed a lot of vulnerability in these victims, and that left a strong impression on me. It also helped to propel me into this professional role.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is spent getting to know each patient and trying to gain an understanding of what may have contributed to their current struggles. This is accomplished by incorporating a relaxed, non-judgmental approach to intervention and treatment.

She was very pleasant. She cared about me and my problems.
From the minute I joined the call you can tell the providers bedside manner is as not up to par. She didn’t even introduce her self and quickly judged me taking the call in my car… the way she talked was not very kind. But I found another provider thankfully!

Don’t even waste your time telling her all about your life and problems. She pretends to listen and care the just drops you to the side to die. Rude and unempathetic. We need empathetic and caring people in the mental health field especially when you never know how close someone is to the edge. Our interactions have sent me into an autistic meltdown. She just wants to collect her money for the visit and not even give a full 60 minute session. I’m sick of doctors that don’t care. This is why people end up going crazy and end up homeless. I came begging for help and was completely honest. Get all your questions out during the session because she will not respond and be accurate via text like she claims.

Friendly during the appointments. However, she sent an incorrect prescription to the pharmacy (similar medications, but a specific type was needed for insurance reasons; she has also prescribed the correct version before, yet for some reason put in a slightly different type this time) and has not been responsive to requests from myself or the pharmacy to correct it.

Great conversation! Happy with my appointment.

I think Nerisa is overall a responsible provider, but she lacks empathy and patience when working with people in different situations. She rolled her eyes at me when I forgot that our appointment couldn’t take place in another state, which I found unacceptable for a psychiatrist.
    Video visit
I had an initial appointment which was about a half hour long in which this doctor perscribed me a medication. I raised concerns about it at first (ex: I struggle with energy and this medication makes you drowsy) but she said it would be ok. The next day I went to pick up the medication from my pharmacy and they had trouble giving me the medication because it conflicted with a current one that the doctor was aware I was taking. The medication I am on right now has a high risk of seizures, and I am on the highest doseage of it. The new medication she perscribed also had a high seizure risk. I requested an appointment with her which lasted two minutes. She told me we wouldn't know my reaction to the medication "unless we tried it" and that I need to find a new psychiatrist since I was a "difficult case" and "too complicated." I was not listened to and completely brushed off when I asked her about the medication. I would never recommend her.

I booked simply to find a new provider—my old doctor no longer takes my insurance—and Nerisa Bryan wouldn’t let me get a word in. She repeatedly interrupted me, assumed I was begging for extra meds (which I wasn’t), and even said, “Let me save you time,” before hanging up on my explanation as to why booked to see her as if questioning my decision to speak with a doctor very weird.. Bottom line: if you want a doctor who actually listens—even just for a simple first call—keep looking. This was one of the most unprofessional experiences I’ve ever had.

NP Bryan is truly heaven sent. I have had trouble finding care with someone who understands the complexities of my mental health and I spoke with Nerisa with ease. She was very patient and calm, which helped me open up so we could figure out a solution that worked for me. She made listened to me thoroughly and treated me with the utmost compassion. I am very grateful to NP Bryan for her help and I think she is a fantastic provider that this field needs.

The lady received me having a smoke and eating. Incredibly rude. She began giving me lecture on how i should my name. After that she kept interrupting me. I cannot believe she showed up first in zocdocs search engine! Zocdoc should take this into consideration.

Nerissa contacted me prior saying that I need to update my card on file prior to my appointment to hold my place. I’m between jobs and my FSA card expired. I was busy at my summer job and couldn’t respond. She calls me the day of my appointment saying that I haven’t updated my card and my appointment is now. I said I apologize , I was just at work and couldn’t respond. I asked if she’d like to reschedule. She got angry at me and said for me to find a new provider. I found this unfair because she told me via text that my appointment would be held only if I had my card on file. I explained this to her and wouldn’t budge. I have the text saved. I’m reliant on my mental health medication and knows I have ADHd. Now I’m left to figure out how to get a new provider because of her unprofessional behavior. I will be reporting her to the licensing board.

First, she claimed that she uses another provider to verify my insurance (Headway) and then I had to provide my credit card information to be able to schedule the appointment. The website pre-charged my credit card w/out even letting the insurance receive and review the bill first, which is not what is expected when you schedule the appointment on zocdoc. Also, I recently moved to the East Coast from west, and unfortunately, my GREAT psychiatrist (who was the only person who could finally find the medications that really works for me) doesn't practice here. Before my visit with her, I provided her with my medical records, and even though in my reason for appointment, I also mentioned "REFILL", she called my medications that helped me to feel alive again a malpractice W/OUT even reading them. It is like asking for water, and the guy finds your request malpractice and diagnoses you to be hungry instead of being thirsty and gives you food. I seriously do not recommend her to anyone!

I had a disappointing experience with this mental health professional. Their demeanor was notably cold and they spoke in a rough, unempathetic manner. I found their lack of compassion to be troubling, as it hindered my ability to feel supported and understood. Unfortunately, this approach did not foster a trusting or therapeutic environment for me.
