Getting to know Nicholas Cory-Duffy
Finding the right psychiatric provider matters, and I want that search to end somewhere steady. I'm a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and I came to this work by way of five years in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and four years as an emergency room nurse.
Caring for people during some of the hardest hours of their lives showed me how much need goes unmet once the immediate crisis has passed. That is why I became a PMHNP, so I could stay with people well beyond it.
I believe mental health care works best when it is built around the individual. I work collaboratively with my patients to develop treatment plans that fit their goals, values and lifestyle, pairing evidence-based medication management with practical strategies around nutrition, exercise, sleep and stress management. My priority is a supportive environment where you feel heard, respected and empowered to make meaningful, lasting progress.
I see adults across California by secure video for anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD and trauma-related symptoms, insomnia, and substance use concerns. Born and raised in Colorado, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at California Baptist University and my Master of Science in Nursing, with a specialization as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, at West Coast University. My nine years in the military and in emergency nursing still shape how I practice today, steady in a crisis and focused on what comes after it.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I see patients by secure video anywhere in California. New patient visits are 60 minutes, so there is time for a thorough evaluation, and follow-ups are typically 30 minutes. I'm in-network with Aetna, Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross, and Carelon Behavioral Health, and it is always worth confirming your specific plan before your first visit.
My focus is psychiatric evaluation and medication management, paired with supportive therapy and practical work on sleep, exercise, nutrition and stress. If you already have a therapist, I am glad to coordinate with them, and if you are looking for one, I can help you find the right fit.
Come as you are. You do not need to arrive with your history organized or the right words ready. Bring a list of any medications you are taking and what has or has not worked for you in the past, and we will build the rest together. Veterans and first responders are especially welcome here. I spent five years in the Navy and four years in emergency rooms, so that world is familiar to me.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
We start with a comprehensive evaluation covering your symptoms, your history, your medical picture, your sleep and the shape of your daily routine. I ask a lot of questions in that first visit, because the more I understand about your life, the better the plan fits it.
From there we build that plan together. Medication management when it is helpful, supportive therapy, and practical strategies around exercise, sleep, nutrition and stress. I explain what I am recommending and why, including the trade-offs, so you can make an informed decision rather than simply be handed a prescription.
Follow-ups are structured but unhurried. We track what is working, adjust what is not, and keep your goals at the center of the plan. Progress in mental health is rarely a straight line, and my job is to stay with you through the whole of it, not just the first few weeks.

I’ve had such a wonderful experience working with Nicholas for the past couple of months . I was initially hesitant about seeing a male practitioner, since I’ve only worked with female practitioners in every health and mental aspect in the past, but due to his quick availability I took the chance and I’m glad I did. Since the initial appointment, I felt welcomed and comfortable, he quickly put me at ease. He was kind, attentive, and really took the time to listen to my concerns, making me feel heard and understood. I never felt rushed or dismissed, and I appreciated how professional, respectful, and thoughtful he was throughout the experience. It’s clear that he genuinely cares about his patients and is passionate about what he does. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate practitioner who makes you feel comfortable and truly cared for.

I was referred to this group by a friend. And I was very happy with their service. Registration was simple and I was able to book an appointment for the next day.
