Shifting his career to focus more on medication management in the Matthews, NC area, Nicholas brings a vast understanding of what is needed to keep his patients active in their lives while ensuring their health aligns with their perspectives. Nicholas earned his Master's in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from the University of South Alabama and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Maryland. He has used his communications background to help drive change in nursing practices at one of the leading local hospitals.
In his spare time, Nicholas is active in his community, volunteering with various non-profits. He has three children and a very loving wife. He enjoys being outdoors, playing music, and disc golf. An avid reader, Nicholas believes life should always be approached from a holistic perspective.

This is my only time seeing a psychiatrist and Nicholas has set the bar so high that lord help any I might see in the future. During my first meeting, he hit everything right on the head and did so in an efficient and relaxed way. Couldn't recommend him more!

Needed a new psychiatrist and my friend suggested Mr Cunningham, was a great first apt and we addressed the issues I was struggling with and made a plan to get stabilized. I really like him because he seemed genuine and human, unlike the more robotic monotone psych I had seen on the Teladoc app. And that makes a world of difference in my ability to open up and trust someone. My experience during my appointment with Nicholas was great. I was pleased with his ability to listen to my concerns, address my questions and willingness to be flexible with my care. He was super knowledgeable in anxiety, depression and ADD/ADHD and willing to discuss and alter medications that work best for me. I’m super pleased that he is wanting to schedule follow ups and really invest in understanding what is working for me and what we need to adjust.
He made me feel more confident in my ability to feel better!

the appointment, the doctor, the doctor's staff all great! the only thing, I was told to message him an update later in the week...(I assumed through the zocdoc app or by responding to his office's appointment reminder). Dr cunningham was amazing. He listened to what was going on, he asked if my previous drs regime was working, and since it was he didnt want to change it but recommended for him see me in a month to touch base to be sure!!!
