Getting to know Nickesha Mckenzie

Hello, my name is Dr. Mckenzie, and I am a board-certified mental health practitioner with extensive experience in treating individuals across all stages of life. My practice encompasses a diverse range of mental health issues, and I am dedicated to providing personalized care tailored to the unique needs of each patient. I offer Spravato (esketamine) treatment, which is an innovative therapy for depression, particularly for patients who have not responded to traditional antidepressants. In addition to Spravato, I incorporate other non-traditional psychotherapeutic treatments designed to support my patients' mental health and well-being. I accept the following insurances in Rhode Island and Connecticut: - Aetna - Anthem - BlueCross and BlueShield optum I also accept clients who are using their out-of-network benefits.

What should a new client know about working with you?

It's important for new clients to understand what to expect when working with me. I utilize a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches tailored to individual needs, with a primary focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Insight-Oriented Therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidence-based approach that emphasizes the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It helps clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns while developing healthier coping strategies. This practical, structured approach is designed to facilitate progress and empower clients to make meaningful changes in their lives. In addition, Insight-Oriented Therapy focuses on exploring deeper emotional issues and understanding the underlying factors that contribute to behavior and thought patterns. This approach encourages self-reflection and insight, allowing clients to gain a clearer understanding of their experiences and motivations. My therapeutic style is collaborative and supportive, aiming to create a safe space where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves. I encourage open communication and value feedback throughout the process. By establishing a strong therapeutic alliance, we can work together to navigate challenges and achieve personal growth. I look forward to partnering with you on your journey towards emotional well-being.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When patients come in for their first appointment, it’s important to set the stage for what they can expect. A typical session often begins with an introduction where I explain my background and approach to treatment. I take the time to establish a comfortable environment, encouraging open communication. For psychiatrists, the diagnostic process typically involves an initial assessment that may include a thorough review of the patient's medical history, current symptoms, and any relevant life circumstances. This helps in forming a comprehensive understanding of the patient’s mental health. I often use standardized assessment tools to aid in the evaluation. During the initial session, I would explain my approach to therapy, highlighting whether I practice talk therapy, and if so, how it integrates into the treatment plan. I emphasize the collaborative nature of our work together, where we will discuss both the patient's concerns and their goals for therapy. Follow-up sessions generally involve continuing our dialogue, monitoring progress, and adapting the treatment plan as needed. This ongoing process is essential in ensuring that patients feel supported and engaged throughout their journey.

My experience was even better than I could have imagined. She was very thorough and helpful. I would recommend this service to anyone who needs a Dr. I had been trying to find one in my area but there was literally no one who could see me anytime soon. I was very happy to have found Zocdoc.

Since I just moved to the area it is always hard to find a new doctor. It was a good experience. She listened to what current care I had and agreed to continue the same path. This is wonderful because so many doctors want to do their own regiments because they feel it would be better. I will continue to meet with her because it was a good fit.

She ghosted our appointment which was disappointing. It would not have mattered if it was just communicated to me that she could not make it. I waited on the video call for 15 minutes
