Marriage and Family Therapist
CA
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist with more than 20 years of experience in health and wellness. My professional background includes work as an athletic trainer, life and relationship coach, and therapist, giving me a broad perspective on the connection between mental, emotional, physical, and relational well-being. I work with individuals, couples, families, and groups experiencing a wide range of concerns, including trauma, PTSD and CPTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship and family challenges, life transitions, substance use, re-entry and reintegration, and other complex life circumstances. As a Native American therapist with diverse life and professional experiences, I value understanding each person within the context of their individual story, relationships, culture, and circumstances. My goal is to provide a compassionate, respectful, and non-judgmental environment where you can feel comfortable being yourself and doing meaningful work. I believe therapy can help you not only navigate what you are struggling with now, but also recognize the strengths, resilience, and resources you already possess as you work toward a healthier and more fulfilling life.

Getting to know Nicole Marks

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you work with me, you can expect a compassionate, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you can speak openly about what you're experiencing. I believe therapy should be collaborative. You know your life and experiences best, and my role is to help you better understand what you're going through, recognize patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and identify the strengths and tools that can help you move forward. I take the whole person into consideration rather than focusing only on symptoms. Your relationships, life experiences, culture, environment, and personal history can all play an important role in your well-being. My approach is warm and understanding while also being focused on meaningful change. I want you to leave our work with greater self-awareness, increased self-compassion, practical tools, and a stronger sense of your ability to navigate life's challenges. There is no expectation that you have everything figured out before you begin. We start where you are and work together from there.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first sessions are an opportunity for us to get to know one another, discuss what brought you to therapy, and develop an understanding of the concerns or challenges you would like to address. I will also learn more about your history, relationships, experiences, strengths, and goals so that we can develop an approach that fits your needs. From there, sessions are collaborative and focused on the areas that are most meaningful to you. Depending on your goals, we may explore past experiences and patterns, work through difficult emotions, examine relationship or family dynamics, develop healthier ways of coping, build self-compassion, or identify practical tools for managing current challenges. I don't believe therapy should be a one-size-fits-all experience. Your needs may change throughout the process, and our work can evolve with you. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard and respected while also helping you make meaningful progress toward greater emotional well-being, healthier relationships, healing, and the life you want to experience.
