About Nicole Spooner
Nicole grew up in the Bay Area and has over 13 years of clinical experience working in dermatology. She received her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Boulder. She has an Associate in Science Nursing degree and earned a Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) focus at Holy Names University in Oakland. She is proficient in all aspects of medical and surgical dermatology, adept at providing thorough skin checks and biopsies for moles and skin cancer. She is available to manage and prescribe treatments for acne, psoriasis, eczema, and skin infections. She also has a keen eye for aesthetics and skin-balancing procedures with injectables, bio-stimulators, and lasers.

From the greeting I received upon entering the office to the time of my departure, I had nothing but a pleasant experience seeing for the first time both the office staff and the medical providers at Union Square Dermatology. Magibma (sp?), the Medical Asst., had read the information I submitted in advance of the appointment and confirmed what I had reported. That gave me confidence that what I had said was heard. Ms. Spooner’s examination thereafter further confirmed that what I had reported was considered. The exam seemed quite thorough, and I had the chance to ask all my questions as well as react to what she observed. I have a history of damaging exposure to the sun and four non-melanoma skin surgeries and eczema and numerous AK’s and SK’s. I will not hesitate to return for care from this practice. They paid attention to me and my issues.

I can see why Nicole has rave reviews. I’ve been looking for a dermatologist who is sharp and has a kind bedside manner. I’m almost 30 and have never seen a derm before but have a family history of skin cancer… so this appointment was a bit nerve wracking for me. Nicole was kind and informative. The front desk and nurse (I believe) who came in initially were also attentive and personable. I’d recommend this office and Nicole to anyone!

This was a strange appointment. I was rushed in and out in 20 minutes. I was unaware I booked a micro-session. Other dermatologist appointments have felt more intentional, thorough, and with ample time to fully inspect my skin and concerns. The good thing is that I received a tretinoin script, which is one of the primary reasons I booked the appointment.
However, the rushed experience overshadowed the "good." I wouldn't return back for this reason. For me, visiting a dermatologist is a form of self-care and I did not feel that the appointment was treated with care, as with other offices I've visited. The provider was nice enough, and gave me 1-2 samples of sunscreen to take home. Other providers left me with an entire bag filled with dozens of samples! Again, the care was simply lacking.

Had several missteps with this group. Last time it was a struggle to get my meds on time. Simple instructions and planning could have avoided the back and forth on my side.
Fast forward and next visit, they got my dosing incorrect and I had to correct them.
Most importantly the first time with the back and forth and delays in meds, I understand these things can happen but the lack of accountability and ownership didn’t sit well with me. This same principle translated to other aspects of care as well but I’ll hold off on that. Good folks and mean we’ll but I’m unhappy and disappointed.
