Nikelson Pierre, APRN

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
FL
Hello and welcome — I’m Dr. Nikelson Pierre, a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP). I am dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to individuals across the lifespan (child, adolescent and adults) at the comfort of their home (virtual). My background includes extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings, in person and virtual, where I’ve worked with diverse populations managing conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and trauma-related disorders. I also have a special interest in integrative approaches that consider the whole person — mind, body, and lifestyle — when creating personalized treatment plans. I believe in a collaborative approach to care, where my patients feel heard, valued, and empowered. Together, we’ll develop a treatment plan that may include psychotherapy, medication management, and practical strategies for lasting wellness. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where healing and growth can take place — one step at a time. If you’re ready to begin your journey toward emotional well-being and balance, I would be honored to work alongside you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

What It’s Like to Work With Me I provide psychiatric care that is thoughtful, collaborative, and patient-centered. My goal is to create a safe, respectful space where you feel heard, understood, and supported while we work together toward meaningful improvement in your mental health. My Clinical Style I approach care with a balance of clinical expertise and genuine compassion. I take time to listen carefully, ask thorough questions, and understand you as a whole person—not just a list of symptoms. You can expect me to be: Warm and empathetic, while remaining professional and attentive Calm and grounded, especially when discussing difficult or overwhelming experiences Clear and transparent about diagnoses, treatment options, and clinical reasoning Respectful of your pace and preferences Treatment Philosophy Mental health care is not one-size-fits-all. I tailor treatment plans to each individual, based on current symptoms, history, goals, and lifestyle. My approach may include: Psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis grounded in evidence-based practice Supportive and skills-based therapy, with a focus on emotional regulation, insight, and coping strategies CBT-informed techniques to help identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns Medication management, when appropriate, prescribed conservatively and monitored closely for effectiveness and side effects Medication is used thoughtfully and collaboratively, and we regularly review whether it continues to be the best option for you. Your First Appointment The initial visit is comprehensive and focused on understanding your concerns. During this session, we will: Explore current symptoms and relevant personal history Discuss past treatments and responses Clarify your goals for care Develop an initial treatment plan together You should leave your first appointment with a clearer understanding of your mental health concerns, sense of direction, and a joint build plan.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My work with clients is collaborative, structured, and centered on understanding you as a whole person. I aim to create a calm, nonjudgmental space where you feel comfortable discussing your concerns, symptoms, and goals. Our first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. I review your current symptoms, emotional concerns, and how they are affecting your daily life. I also gather information about your personal history, medical background, family history, past mental health treatment, medications, and any significant stressors or life changes. When appropriate, I use evidence-based screening tools along with clinical judgment to clarify diagnoses. This process is thoughtful and thorough, and you are encouraged to ask questions throughout. Based on this evaluation, we work together to develop an individualized treatment plan. This may include medication management, education about your diagnosis, lifestyle and wellness recommendations, and coping strategies. I practice medication management with care and intention, focusing on effectiveness, safety, and minimizing side effects. While I do not provide traditional long-term psychotherapy, I incorporate practical talk-therapy elements into sessions. This includes supportive counseling, psychoeducation, cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness techniques, motivational interviewing, and problem-solving approaches. Sessions are interactive and focused on helping you better understand your symptoms, build skills, and navigate real-life challenges. Follow-up visits typically involve reviewing how you’ve been feeling, assessing progress, monitoring medications, making adjustments as needed, and addressing new or ongoing concerns. Treatment plans are flexible and evolve over time based on your response and goals. I believe in shared decision-making and transparency. You are an active partner in your care, and my goal is to support symptom relief, emotional balance, and long-term mental well-being.
