About Dr. Nikhilesh Sekhar
At the completion of his fellowship he became one of the first surgeons in the country to develop a robotic surgery program. Dr. Sekhar worked with gynecologists to create and implement a robotic, minimally invasive cancer surgery program. He also honed a wide range of other skills including EGD, colonoscopy, esophageal motility, and reflux testing as well as the full range of minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Sekhar has performed thousands of bariatric procedures including Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, and Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding. He also has an extensive advanced laparoscopic background performing laparoscopic Nissen for reflux, laparoscopic inguinal and ventral hernia repair, laparoscopic colectomy, and laparoscopic lymphadenectomy. In addition, he has extensive experience in Robotic surgery for achalasia and other esophageal disorders.
Dr. Sekhar spent his childhood in the Bronx, New York, and then in New Jersey. He graduated from college at Johns Hopkins University. He completed Medical School at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. He completed his general surgery training at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, NY. Following completion of his general surgery training, Dr. Sekhar completed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville TN under the tutelage of the pioneering surgeon William O. Richards, MD. There he developed unique expertise in the treatment of achalasia and gastroesophageal reflux, in addition to his extensive bariatric surgery training.

I had my surgery on January 4th. When I woke up from surgery I felt great. I was walking the hospital floor a couple hours after surgery. I have been walking ever since. In 1 week I have lost weight and I have energy and wake up every morning before the alarm goes off. This is the best thing I have done in a long time. The staff have been wonderful this whole time. Any questions they are right there to answer them.

I had lap band surgery in October with Dr. Sekhar. I lost almost 70 pounds, my A1C 6.2 and I feel great. I never fit into small sizes but now I do! NYBG is great and I highly recommend them to reach your weight loss goals.

From the moment I called for information, the staff has been incredibly kind and patient. I am located in Connecticut and went to the Farmington office. The staff was absolutely incredible. The process(which I was terrified of) turned out to be amazing!

Amazing. Simply amazing. I see Dr. Sekhar in the Farmington, CT office which is beautiful. Everyone on staff is so nice and knowledgeable. They treat everyone so well and always willing to ask questions. The bariatric concierge is amazing to work with and keeps track of you paperwork for you. I recommend NYBG.
