“Dr. Chawla is an amazing therapist. I have experienced therapists who try to fix things and while that is part of their description, many of them have a difficult time just listening and making you genuinely feel like they're on your side. When I wanted to give up on myself, Dr. Chawla showed that she was committed to my healing and continues to do so. She gives practical and actionable goals to achieve while helping you to seek more kindness towards yourself. I'm excited to see how much more progress I will make as I continue on my journey ”

Getting to know Dr. Nitaya Chawla
*Please be advised our practice has a strict 24-hour cancellation fee.*
Change is never easy, but with the assistance of a therapist, you can start to learn skills to move toward your goals. Some of these skills include effective communication, mindfulness, relaxation, and changing negative thought patterns. In my work with couples, I focus on teaching communication skills and understanding underlying issues that affect the relationship.
I have found hypnosis to be an effective tool for a variety of issues, including chronic and acute pain, weight management, smoking cessation, stress, sleep issues, anxiety, and panic attacks.
I have been providing psychotherapy for over 10 years and have experience working with individuals who have a history of abuse (physical, sexual, and emotional), anxiety disorders, depression, pain, trauma, bipolar disorder, psychosis, chronic or acute illness, cancer, as well as other conditions.
I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Midwestern University.

Went on weird tangents and got oddly political even when I tired to steer away from it.

Great Doctor

I stayed with Dr. Chawala for 4 sessions. I appreciated her work, but I decided to stop going to her, due to her pattern tardiness. Due to my schedule, we opted for lunch time sessions. She was late every session, with the exception of the first. I was late, because she text me an address change 30 minutes before our appointment- so unprofessional. On our second session, at a different location, was also started late, and like the others, was cut off as if it had started on time. She arrived flustered to that appointment and had no notes or recollection of what we talked about. I was taken aback when she had to ask, "what did we talk about last week?" Unreal. I need more organization and professionalism in my therapist.

I have been seeing Nitaya for 6-7 months and I recommend her. I feel very comfortable with her and she has a calm demeanor and a good sense of humor when called for. When I am not doing so well, she is very present and serious. When things are doing better, we can talk about the good stuff and laugh together.

Dr Chawla created a comfortable environment to allow a safe space for my partner and I to share. Her honesty and openness is very welcoming. This was our first appointment, but we look forward to working with her more.

She picked up and looked at her phone at least 2-3 times during the appointment. I'm not sure if she was checking the time or checking for messages, but it would seem she needs to invest in a wall/desk clock, so that the patient doesn't feel they're being timed or interrupting urgent messages. Not a comforting feeling in a therapy appointment.
Also, I inquired about insurance coverage prior to the first appointment, but Dr. Chawla told me the first appointment would be a non-charged consultation. That was my only appointment. Four months later I've just received an undue bill in the mail for the "consultation" and now am having to take time to call the hospital and sort it out.

I wasn't terribly impressed. Overall her demeanor was adequate, but she kept her cell volume on instead of silencing it, and at one point while I was talking she picked it up and started scrolling. This was a huge put off for a first timer - I expected a mental health professional to at least pretend to not be distracted while I was talking to her for the first time. Don't think I'll be back.

Dr. Nitaya Chawla listened to everything I had to say. She is very helpful and doesn't make you feel judged. She let's the client run the session with whatever it is they need to talk about. I also like that she has a very calming voice.
