Hello, my name is NP Nkem. I am a passionate Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years of experience in the healthcare and public health field. I earned my Master's in Psychiatric Nursing from Purdue University. First, I create a nonjudgmental and safe environment to form rapport, allowing patients to take charge of their mental health by providing information that enables informed decisions. Then, I assess the mental health needs of individuals, develop healthcare plans, implement treatment, and evaluate treatment effectiveness and progress.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I understand how resilient human spirit can be as they can overcome so many challenges of the past and create the life they want to live. I am also passionate about the benefit of initiating psychotropic medications if needed. I collaborate with patient on what treatment plan that will yield expected health outcome. Medications are chosen based on brain chemistry we are targeting.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) and DBT modality are used together or seperate to achieve successful health outcome.
Our thoughts are very powerful and we can change our situation and create the life we wish for by changing our thoughts
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I take holistic approach toward making sure Patient’s mental health needs are met. First visit is about getting to know clients
So, we will talk about patient’s symptoms /mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and social health.
In-person visits are required for patients with a history of controlled substances.

Visit went alright. The doctor prescribed me a medication for my ADHD I had been on before but had to discontinue due to gastric issues, however it’s been a while since I’ve been on it so we will see how it goes. She refilled all of my other medications no problem. I have another appointment this week.

Nkem (Kem) was very easy to talk to and a good listener. I felt she validated my concerns and in addition was very efficient in helping me with my med refill. She made certain to send it to the pharmacy of my choice, eventhough it was not listed on the intake form. I would be happy to recommend her to a friend!

They never contacted me about there being a problem with my insurance and just charged my card 3x the amount of my co-pay. Wouldn’t help me get my money back. Said it would take 2 weeks to get a response from insurance. Not helpful. Kept cutting me off on the phone then hung up.
