What should a new client know about working with you?

I have studied intensive forms of psychotherapy with such leaders in the field as Jon Frederickson, MSW and Patricia Coughlin, Ph.D. My primary motivation during psychotherapy is always to respect your goals on your journey toward healing, while helping you to become more connected with what you truly need to heal as revealed by your own deeper understanding of your self. I have studied mind-body medicine along with the use of herbal and nutraceutical interventions with nationally known leaders such as Richard Brown, MD and Patricia Gerbarg, MD. I respectfully offer what I have learned to those who wish to explore complementary treatments. I have extensive experience in the use of pharmaceutical interventions throughout the field of mental health. My philosophy in the use of medications is to always aim for best results with the lowest effective dosage, a minimum of side effects and an avoidance of addictive medications.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For all new patients, I require an in-person visit to do an initial psychiatric evaluation. This very thorough evaluation usually takes 90 to 120 minutes. Subsequent sessions may be from 20 to 75 minutes, depending on how much psychotherapy we have agreed upon, and will usually be via telehealth. Even for those patients for whom I am primarily focusing on medication management, I will typically include time in each session for deep therapeutic listening.
