What should a new client know about working with you?

Welcome — I’m glad you’re here. As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), my role is to support your mental health through a combination of psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, and therapeutic support. My approach is patient-centered and collaborative. I believe in building a strong, respectful partnership with you where your goals, values, and lived experiences guide our work together. Whether you're exploring medication options, navigating a diagnosis, or managing ongoing symptoms, we’ll make decisions as a team. I incorporate evidence-based practices and stay up to date on the latest clinical guidelines, but I also recognize that no two people are alike. I’ll always take time to explain treatment plans, listen to your concerns, and adjust our approach based on what works best for you. Our visits will be a space for open conversation — no judgment, just support. Whether this is your first time seeking mental health care or you’re continuing treatment, I’m here to help you feel heard, understood, and empowered in your journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, we’ll start by getting to know each other. I’ll ask questions about your current concerns, medical and mental health history, lifestyle, and goals for treatment. This helps me understand the full picture and make an accurate diagnosis, if needed. It’s also your chance to share what’s been going on in your life — at your own pace. From there, we’ll talk about a treatment plan. That may include medication, therapy referrals, lifestyle changes, or other supports, depending on your needs and preferences. I’ll always explain my reasoning and make sure you feel comfortable with the next steps. You’ll never be rushed into making a decision. Follow-up sessions are usually shorter and focused on how you're doing — we’ll check in on your symptoms, side effects (if you're taking medication), and anything that’s come up since we last talked. These visits are also a space for you to ask questions, process challenges, and reflect on progress. While I don’t typically provide structured talk therapy like a psychologist or therapist might, I do integrate therapeutic conversations into our visits. I’m here to listen and offer support, not just prescribe medication. Ultimately, my goal is to create a safe, respectful space where you feel empowered and cared for.
