About Dr. Oliver Schipper
Dr. Schipper is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who completed his medical education at the Georgetown University School of Medicine and attended the University of Chicago for an orthopaedic surgery residency. He then completed his orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery training at the top fellowship, OrthoCarolina Foot & Ankle Institute.
Dr. Schipper is the editor of the Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery textbook and is an international key opinion leader in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, including minimally invasive bunion surgery and calcaneal zadek osteotomy for Achilles insertional tendinosis. He is also the minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery Specialty Editor for the top foot and ankle peer-reviewed journal, Foot and Ankle International. Dr. Schipper was the first to perform minimally invasive bunion surgery (PECA/MICA/META bunionectomy) in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area, as well as minimally invasive lesser toe deformity correction and minimally invasive hindfoot reconstruction. Dr. Schipper teaches and lectures internationally on minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery. He runs multiple cadaver labs each month to teach surgeons from around the country new techniques in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery.
He has co-authored multiple book chapters and published numerous papers in orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery, with a focus on ankle replacement and minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery. He has produced the lead article in the Foot and Ankle International journal multiple times. His research was the first to link early ankle replacement osteolysis to implant wear particles, for which he was a Leonard J. Goldner Award finalist. In collaboration with Rush University, he was awarded an Orthopaedic Research and Education Fund grant, comparing ankle replacement implant wear between highly cross-linked polyethylene and conventional ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene.
